I think if the Eels win tonight, we might see Kearney's contract extension announced this week. Either way it is coming sooner rather later, and my understanding is that Peter Nolan has also had his contract extended. I'm pretty certain that wouldn't have happened, unless he knew Kearney's signature was also guaranteed.
We've seen two pro-Kearney stories placed in the press the past fortnight. Both have talked up Kearney as a coach, with first Bob Bentley going into bat for him and now in the most recent story posted by AJAX they have Nathan Cayless talking him up. Both have said that the club is looking at a contract extension, all of which is pretty obviously a PR strategy to prepare people for the announcement within the context of some positive publicity.
I'm assuming they're basically just waiting for a win before announcing it.

Any extension should be covered by a Performance Related Termination Clause without penalties attached otherwise we just invite more NRL non-performance & acceptance of Coach complacency, eg If teams fails to retain a spot in the top ten during the season then the Club is free to terminate arrangements at the end of that season.
I'm on record as being as against this as it is possible for an individual to be, for what I believe to be reasons so obvious and numerous as to boggle the mind. However, I don't think a contract extension really matters, as any contract can be terminated regardless of remaining tenure, depending on the provisions therein (and I can assure you there will be a number of very clear ones to this end in his new contract - which actually might explain the upgrade). The fact remains, with continued results like those that he has delivered so far, he won't see out any version of his contract. You can take that to the bank.
Continued results? Do you mean like getting beat before 1/2 time?
We is SOOOOO screwed!
I can't see Parra winning a game this year.
He has done nothing but embarrass us.
