Jason Ryles in his after match press conference said that Joash is our 1st choice 5/8 going into the future. He also said that he wants to play him there as much as possible from now on to let him develop and build his game.

I don't see Joash as a 6.
If I'm building a team from scratch a 5/8 has to have some semblance of a first grade kicking game.
Weve got young inexperienced hookers and a fullback I fail to see how you'd entertain the idea of an inexperienced 5/8 .
Thats a lot of pressure on Moses who struggles to string games together or Hawkins his replacement.
If we've identified a player in our system who we've earmarked for 5/8 surely we go to market for a stop gap experienced footballer that has a kicking game, is a strong defender and can play a number of positions until the kid develops.
Sounds like Doueihi.
If we haven't got a player in our system , a ready to go 5/8 we have to enter the playing market.
Im not sure what Ryles has in mind, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt but playing Joash in the halves with little experience combined with our slow starts to halves particularly the start of games is a major concern.
What you say makes sense but unless Ryles is playing games at pressers or something changes we are not buying an older player. Ryles said we are going young. The club and him have decided that's the way to go.
I've got no problem opting for youth, but you have to select players who are at least experienced in their position if your putting them into a first grade spine.
We don't exactly have a forward pack that eats metres that could give the kid room enough to develop.
Blooding kids in the halves without strong forward packs inevitably goes arse up let alone one playing out of position.
Spot on, Bup.
If Joash had been a 5/8th through the grades, maybe, but he hasn't. Yesterday we had two spine players playing new positions, a fullback & backup half with a handfull of first grade games between them, and a hooker playing his game in the system.
Combined with a side where we are carrying multiple players who probably are back up first graders at best, its an all-in play on Joash developing into that position.
I do get the 'the future is now' play, and respect Ryles isn't afraid to pull the trigger, but, there is a balance here between developing for next year, and losing a lot of what you have built this year.
Are we opting for youth Badger or that's just what's left in the market after missing certain targeted players.
Tough games to throw him in the deep end: Panthers, Raiders, Broncos, Storm. I get the need to look to the future but also question why this didn't happen earlier as JR response earlier in the season was DB is our 6. I also feel as though Walker would be better suited as a 6 then JP. I would also like to see Twidle given a chance before the end of the year. I can't see where he is going to fit DB in our team for the remainder of the year. Having said that we can't win games making 20 errors and making poor defensive reads. We are struggling atm with depth in our forwards so will be interesting to see how we go without Kitione and Kelma. Really miss Moretti's impact as well in the middle.
As soon as we knew DB was off to Newcastle and definitely after we were seeing he wasn't having a go for us, something should had been done. Yesterday done it for me WTF!!!! Hooker???? With no plan I might add. I have been screaming the house down for months, so much so the dogs won't come near when Parra is playing. Should of moved DB to centre as soon as he clocked off or drop him. Would have served more purpose tightening up or edges and add some speed. Dropped penis to Reggie's to have a good look at himself. The horse has now bolted with Elvis riding him in the fifth at Randwick.
Still disappointed we've pulled out of negotiations with Sandon Smith. I rate that guy, I like his toughness and he has quality in the things he does. He can also kick goals which is a bonus. Maybe it was a money thing but for me Smith would have walked into the 6 jersey and solved a critical issue immediately.
I thought Smith pulled out, not us!!
Smith was not keen on us and we weren't keen on him. He was set to go to NQ to play 9 or 14 but now Mahoney is 9 havent heard anything.
Smith can't even get a run with Easts now.
