What a mess!
The second Dylan signed elsewhere his season at the Eels was effectively over. Now it's been confirmed that it is truly over as far as his Coach is concerned. Yet he still takes up salary cap space and we still have the season to finish.
I concede that the offer he got from Newcastle was insane and he had no choice but to take it, however the situation highlights the farce that is the current player transfer market. Basically if you have a player sign elsewhere 12 months out then it's over there and then. All the talk at the time about him being committed to the season and an important piece of our plans was nonsense. We're a team running 15th and we're benching one of our Marquee players. It's irrelevant if that is the right thing to do, what it illustrates is the mess that our R&R is.
Apologies for the rant but I'm frustrated with the continual bumbling of our roster. This is our 3rd season straight without finals.

Brown gave us all the time in the world to replace him . He's playing shit cause the team is chopped around and the contract probably took it out of him .Moses ain't helping. It's hard to replace both halves. Ba playing style wasn't great and contract problems. The problem now is attracting talent. I think the only way is 2 experienced top forwards I don't think Galvin buys will help
I agree that our R&R hasn't been great, but what could they have done differently in this situation? Offered 1.5 per season...?
The only thing they could have done is reupped his years.If they'd have done that and given him a small raise I think he stays.I don't think they had to match newcastles money per season for him to stay.

Exactly , there's no way on this green earth that upgrading him even a dollar was an option. Ryles wanted him gone and not giving in to his request for more money was how he got the job done. Brown will fail miserably at Newcastle and become public enemy #1 and scurry back to NZ within 5 years.

That's a big muff. But I agree. Dylan will be a has been in 3/5 years.
They should have not signed Brown to a ridiculous contract with a million Player Options that basically guaranteed we could never forward plan with any certainty.
This contract structure was hilariously bad and gave us the worst of both worlds as it let one of our juniors we'd invested in walk away (Talagi) because it appeared his pathway was blocked whilst allowing the guy blocking his pathway to negotiate yearly with other clubs to try and find a buyer.
If it wasn't Newcastle it would have been the Bears, or PNG, or another struggling club.
Our R&R enabled this situation to happen.
