Jenkins to the Eels?

Some early Friday morning scuttlebutt on Facebook saying Eels have made an offer to sign Thomas Jenkins from the Panthers. I really have no idea if this is true or the validity behind the rumours, but this is a signing I can definitely get behind. Hopefully we've made him a great offer that puts Penrith in a difficult position to retain him. They have Tago and To'o on around $800k each, Alomoti and McClean on moderate deals, so it's a stacked backline and someone's gotta go, and they can't keep them all.

Jenkins is young and has a great career ahead of him, if we storm in with slightly overs for 3+ years it will be a great investment because we're shit at developing wingers. Let's hope this rumour is true 🤞

  1. Iongi
  2. Addo-Car
  3. Nanva
  4. Penisini
  5. Jenkins

That's a solid backline to build on.

            • Who remembers the constant refrain on 1EE that the club is hopeless because they pay overs? My bet is the same folks who played worlds greatest contract and cap manager in lampooning the club for paying overs, are now hoping we buy their sincerity in demanding the Eels pay overs for some winger getting fed tries on the end of a dominant Panthers line up.

I am sure there are some who do NOT fall into "it's the same folks". They might defend paying overs right now but have not lampooned paying overs in the past. No beef with them. It's their opinion. But the "same folks" set? Nah, it's poisoned chalice stuff. If paying overs was enough to claim R&R was broken sack the club then, it's hardly reasonable to expect we'll buy their sincerity now.

              • I'm not sure who on 1EE is in your sights DAZ re comments of  " Its the same Folks". I'm too exhausted , and mentally fatigued supporting a team that has made the top 4 a small handful of times in the last 21 years.

At this point i'm prepared to try anything. One great constant in all of this. Zero premierships in 40 years. Folks changing spots is possible the least of my concerns old friend. If any of those folks have a great idea that could help us, i'd gladly check out of the asylum,  for a day, and take my Eels jersey off to listen.  At this point sitting second last  this year, with the worst defensive Eels side ever put together since 1947, im not sure doing what we have been doing is what we need to be doing. 🤷‍♂️Any ideas that may help Daz.

            • So true LB. Its a fine line R&R must tread. We all , here want a dominating winning team, heading to the top of the ladder  and it's not happening.

That puts doubts in most supporters, fans and members alike. If it ain't workin then fix it. That usually involves changing what your doing for the better. But what's truely better ?

          • 100% spot on. There are times when you need to pay overs for certain players, that might just be the ice breaker required to start winning games, which in return hopefully makes it easier to recruit. Sick of the rubbish of not paying overs.....

            • X3, Bluey & Analyst.

No one wants to pay overs, but that is the position we are now in due to our own incompetence. .

We are not going to entice talent on bargain deals in our position, and talented players will receive overs from other clubs in our position.

We lack 2-3 elite talents that could change everything, and yes, it might cost 50k more a season - which we are saving on players like Walker / Williams with ROI.

I can understand Keaon, but not Galvin. After losing the NZ 5/8th, that was an opportunity we couldn't miss - even if it cost extra $$.

The Storm have always prioritised big money in their spine under Bellamy, and they've gone ok.

          • That is so grim Blue

    • 4 year, 1.45 million with unlimited tickets to wiggles concerts and 30% off at Peter Wynn's Score for the lifetime of his contract?

      • Hmmm, making him an offer he can't refuse eh? 🐴

  • He can find the try line but also he's carried out of the half have been really good. Consistently makes 200+m with other 10+ per run and his pcm are similar to to'o this year. Be a great signing

  • I feel like some respect needs to be put on Simonson's name.

"Luke Vella was his coach at Westfields Sport High. He loved working with him and Ciraldo was the orchestrator. Also playing 7 was a big factor.
He by what I've heard never actually met Gus."

"I think the plan all along was for him to be 6 or 13 with Woods as 7. They just felt get him in now and work it out later.
It showed that the Dogs are a team that thrive with a simple Halfback like Sexton."
