Does Proscenko make this stuff up or do we have a rat amongst us? Who's leaking this information?Parramatta is continuing to pay Jarryd Hayne at least $50,000 this year despite the fact he left the club to pursue his NFL dream.Fairfax Media can reveal Hayne remains on the Eels' books, although it's believed the payments don't count towards the club's salary cap. The two-time Dally M medallist had signed with the blue and golds until the end of 2015 but was granted a release from the final year of his contract to challenge himself in American football. He subsequently signed with San Francisco and hopes to make the cut as part of the 49ers' 53-man squad.Parramatta has engaged its own auditors, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), to forensically pore over the books following salary cap breaches that resulted in a $465,000 fine and could force them to start four points adrift if there is a repeat before the start of next season. Hayne unwittingly became embroiled in the dramas when it emerged a $15,000 air fare – part of a study trip to the United States – was one of the alleged breaches.AdvertisementHowever, it's understood the latest anomaly was discovered as part of the normal reporting process the club undertakes at this time of year. The fact that Hayne is still being paid came as a shock to Eels officials given the fullback was the party which asked for, and was granted, a release when the club could have dug in its heels. It is all the more surprising given the late decision left Parramatta without enough time to adequately replace their best and most marketable player. It's expected the club will investigate what the payments are for and why they are continuing. The Eels' internal practices were already being heavily scrutinised after the hamfisted negotiations with Kieran Foran. Under the terms of the original contract, Foran was entitled to a $1 million damages payout should he wish to severe ties with the Eels at any time during his four-year tenure. That deal was renegotiated, resulting in the final two years of the Manly star's stay now being an option in his favour.According to a press release the club issued in October, "Hayne has signed a 'lifetime agreement' with the Eels, so if he chooses to return to the NRL, he will come back to Parramatta without question."In an open letter to members at the same time, Hayne reiterated his intention never to play for a rival team should he return to league."I'm always telling people to chase their dreams and follow their hearts – if I don't live by that I'm not being honest with myself," Hayne wrote."I'm leaving knowing that I have signed a 'lifetime agreement' with the Eels, so if I return to the NRL, it will be to Parramatta."However, it's unclear how and whether the said "lifetime agreement" between the parties was documented. It's understood that Hayne will be a free agent from 2016 should he wish to return to rugby league.Corey Norman will again have to play in the No.1 jersey in Friday night's Heritage Round clash with Canterbury, shifting from his preferred option in the halves."The first week there I was getting used to it, and the last week there I felt a lot more comfortable," Norman said."It feels good. I'd rather be playing five-eighth, but it's ways of finding the ball, which is different. I'm used to getting my hands on the ball a lot more, and I have to learn different ways to get my hands on the ball. The first week was a bit shaky and rusty, but last week I felt comfortable and in the groove again."Norman, who is in the custodian role in the absence of the injured Reece Robinson, has been assured he will play in the halves alongside star signing Foran next year."I think I'll be in the halves with Foz," he said. "But we'll worry about that come pre-season. We all know how good Kieran is, and it's good he's coming here and not staying at Manly."

  • Could be a leak from someone at PWC
  • Well if roosters giving him a car to use doesn't count because he doesn't play for them then this shouldn't count
    • Under cap rules if it is done by the company owned by the chairman it does count if he is a contracted player.
  • The day after the Tigers announce a salary cap disaster that will take 3 years to fix, this is what the media reports. Fmd
    • Don't your realise Muttman that this latest saga will put the Foran contract in jeopardy! At least that's what I'm expecting to be reported next. It is unbelievable how there is any interest in this after the Tigers debacle.
    • Yep, ridiculous.
  • Well you cannot have an agreement (Hayne to return only to Parra) without due consideration (money). So this makes ore sense to me. Whether this should be included in the cap is for the experts to determine.
  • He is not an NRL registered player so it can't be in the cap whether this is true or not.
  • Spags' mate is at it again...

    • Didn't he have some sort of grievance about 3rd party deals owed to him ? I'd say as above we are just finalising money owed and have found a way to do it outside the cap .
