Mitchy, an easy way to get $600 million is simply to claw back at least 1.5% of the $40 billion per annum foregone revenue due to giving gas away to foreign multinationals. That is, just make royalties on gas 1.5% more efficient.
Problem solved!
Or . . . cancel just one submarine from the terminally ridiculous $368 billion out to 2050 we are going to spend on nuclear submarines (obsolete before we get them). That's just one sub at $8 billion and we could fund the football teams from every island in the Asia-Pacific!
I tend to agree Prof Daz; and also maybe just ask Mr Chalmers to cut govt spending which is contributing to inflation; there you go Daz we can solve it; and maybe cut the immigration firstly, and then focus on skilled workers (means less on welfare / medicare etc); NDIS and also the debt free student loans. You and I can sort it. NDIS has been rorted as seen here in NSW and Vic.
Agree it will be 'dad's army' roster, just like when Gold Coast came into the comp. I guess they're hoping by the 10th year, there will be some PNG players ready to step into NRL. Those 8-10 year olds now aspiring to one day play NRL. Its a real possibility given it is their national sport, unlike Melbourne who after all these years and all their successes, have fck all juniors come through. Perth will be the same as Melbourne. I'd rather a second NZ team over Perth.
I wonder if they could get a Farnworth or Walsh? At this stage they are getting players on back-end of their careers. Since they are announced now in the end of prime it looks good at the moment.
This is why the recruitment group need to be in front of the game; we need to have some tough type players earmarked (with some nrl exp) and we will need more than Sua; Paulo will be gone i assume by 28 along with i assume Matto / Walker and now possibly Williams; and with Hopgood gaining injuries.....we need some more biff up front and this concerns me as juniors alone will not be enough.
PNG will win a comp before we do ill say in 15 years time they would of equalled our tally they will be able to buy a comp in the first few then reap rewards of local talent and NRL talent and NRL exceptions
At 31 he won't have many years left so I get why he'd take the cash free money. Luckily we ch ave a few edge forwards coming through that are 1-2 years away from debuting
I can't understand why everyone is worried about it now when this has been on the table for 2-3 years but now Tax free and Free TPAs is now unfair 😂 why wasn't there so much noise around this when Expansion was first floated.
The players and there families no what there getting themselves into before going up there.Players aren't uprooting there families not understanding and knowing all the facts before doing so.Alot of this is scaremongering.I floated this to a certain poster on here that Expansion was going to hurt the nrl more so than help it because the talent base elite talent at best was stretched right now less the 2 new teams. But apparently not the argument was there's plenty of talent. When in all essence there isn't there's the haves and have nots.
Vlandys and co can say what they like but in all essence all this is really is a cash grab for the game more product to sell regardless if it's good for the game or not.
"My concern is how PVL is so attracted to US sport he will consider this idiotic conference system being floated around.
But it's funny how he is trying to get higher price yet is open to less games. The more games yearly the more money."
"Yep Vlandys no doubt is influenced by what sport is like in the US I have zero doubts about that.Sport/Entertainment is all about money generation first and foremost most. His move is getting and using hard earned Aussie tax payer dollars to spread…"
"Great comment Longfin, we don't have to be all things to all people. But we do have to matter to those who we want to stay and I'm sure that's all in the plan."
"The NRL has become a product to sell to the highest bidder and to generate as much income as possible. It's no longer a sporting spectacle where the best skills are on display. Cricket has done that for years now with T20, and to be honest that has…"
