this has to make it impossible
As a result of Deloitte’s report, News Limited estimates that the total value of salary cap breaches by the club between 2006 and 2010 is up to $3.170 million, an approximate 83% increase on the original NRL estimate of $1.735 million

The lack of co operation by the players though tells me that they were guilty as sin, and they knew they were doing wrong!
This is a crock of shit, and IMO News Ltd will bear the brunt of it and the players and the club will come out smelling like roses!
They were caught cheating in 2002, but in 2003 & 2004 they fielded the same team and catually added Andrew Ryan to their squad. Their players took a 'paycut' to stay even though Willie Mason later admitted they all ended up getting all their money anyway. This is why NRL are not allowing Paycuts as they realised Dogs kept cheating and won the comp in 2004.
The cleanout started in 2005.
We did the same thing las tseason to try and keep Kevin Kingston and the NRL refused to allow players to take less money and amend contracts.
I think the players are dreaming if the ythink the ycan stay together

"Big four offer to take pay cuts to stick together"
STORM stars Cameron Smith, Billy Slater, Greg Inglis and Cooper Cronk have approached Melbourne officials offering to take pay cuts to assist the club in their efforts to retain them all and form a competitive squad that fits under the $4.2 million salary cap next year
The concept of salary reductions at the Storm next year is one the NRL are aware of. The NRL would not accept Storm pay cuts to get them under the cap in 2010 as mid-year alterations to salaries are not allowed. However, they will give them the green light for next year, although reductions in salary of an outrageous nature will not be acceptable. ''We wouldn't allow it in 2010,'' NRL chief executive David Gallop said.
''We'd certainly need to look at any proposal they put to us that will keep them under the cap in 2011, so long as it's fair to the other clubs in the competition.''
If the NRL allow this to happen it will be just about the biggest disgrace in the history of the game. Other clubs better make some serious noise about this. Our players wern't allowed to take pay cuts to fit in Kingston last year for a measly 50k, now Melbourne want 4 players worth 2.2 million of the cap to be allowe to take pay-cuts, well that will do me.
