One of the oldest cliches rolled out time and time again by clubs, coaches, players and even the media is:
"We won't use injuries as an excuse for our performances."
While it's a lovely sentiment and makes it look like they are taking the moral high ground and ownership of the situation, in my opinion it's simply not true. The worst part is people have heard this cliche so often they start to believe it. So much so people are sacked or thrown to wolves according to this line of thinking.
Case in point - look at Manly. Please know I have no love for Manly and if the truth be told I really enjoyed watching them get smashed this year, but it seems to me Toovey has gotten a raw deal with being given the boot over their results. They have had key players injured for extend periods of time and their results highlight this. Now they are getting some of their cattle back they are looking a better team.
I have seen people on here and in the media saying things like BA is under all types of pressure to get results and if he doesn't he should get the sack. As we all know Parra have had a terrible run with players being unavailable through either injuries or suspension and the results have not been what had hoped for. From the moment Edwards went down in the 9's - to last weeks injuries to Choc and Norman and Wicks we have been plagued by bad luck. I don't think we have been able to pick out best 17 from our roster all year. Don't get me wrong, I agree that if a team is performing below reasonable expectations questions should be asked, however to expect a team to continue on the same without key players is unrealistic.
The next argument is of course 'all teams get injuries and that's why you can't use it as an excuse'. While I agree all clubs have injuries or suspensions to deal with, some are hit harder than others. Look at the Panthers. They were touted as definite top 8 finishes, however a massive injury toll will see them most likely miss out this year. Does this mean Ivan's job is in danger and he is a bad coach? I personally think not.
For those who stick by the idea of 'No excuses' think about this. If it really doesn't affect the outcome of events and the teams should win regardless of injuries - why then to sports betting agencies adjust the odds on offer so dramatically dependent on which players are playing?
Unfortunately this year Parra has been highly unlucky with players unavailable and I fear we are in for a few more floggins before seasons end. I ask that you don't judge BA or the players too harshly and keep in perspective the massive injury toll we have suffered. I honestly believe, had we not been plagued by as many injuries as we have had, we would be playing finals football come September.

Is that you Super?
BTW, obviously coaches say that you can't blame injuries for...well pride I guess and a no excuses front.
I thought that was a given?
Anyway, it's no surprise clubs near the bottom of the ladder are riddled with injuries.
For the eels, what to do about it so the same thing doesn't happen in 2016 is the question.
The training regime has obvious flaws.
Just instruct the players not to get injured, no if's or but's.
Hmmmm you might be right Mo. Toovey might have been more a case of club politics rather than pruely performance related. and agreed there is no loyalty anymore :(
I don't know why politicians go on his show now. It became all hatred with MORE laws and MORE punishment. The collective IQ of our country is falling rapidly
