In Solidarity & With Pride

I have been a Parramatta Eels supporter for over 50 yrs now. As long as I can remember.

I can't even say that I chose this. My mother christened me into this Tribe, for better or worse. I saw our Premiership wins. I thought more would follow, but that didn't happen. At times I have questioned why I would want to remain a part of this tribe moving forward. The answer was simple. I no longer had a choice. Blue & Gold it is and that's the way it's gonna stay. This forced attachment to the club has led me, and many of our fanbase especially here, to be hyper-critical of our club's decisions and derisive of our leadership.

Sure, I feel bursts of pride, but it is fleeting and ephemeral. Today it feels solid.

Jim Sarantinos and Matthew Beach have shown admirable fortitude under pressure in taking up this righteous fight. We are punching up in a manner that has unified our fan base behind them. I have NEVER seen the forums here as unified on any topic ass they are now. But it's more than the will to fight. You can try to punch up all you like, but unless you are in great shape you may embarrass yourself, and without unity of spirit and purpose we would devour ourselves. The unflinching actions of club leadership in this matter have embodied these attributes within our Club and we have these guys to thank for it. It makes me feel Proud.

They are Leaders worthy of support and they have mine. Jason Ryles has been a breath of fresh air. We could finally be onto something here. If Jason, Matt and Jim get us there they will be gold-etched into our history books. It feels to me like they just wrote their first chapter.

  • Credit where credit is due. We don't always get it right, but the way the Lomax situation has been handled from day 1 has been first class. It feels like we as a Club have drawn a line in the sand. The best part, we look to have the backbone to not only hold our own in this battle, but to show up some of the bigger players in town to look utterly incompetent (not to metion corrupt).

I back the Club 100% in this fight and, as a fan, am proud of the way they're going toe to toe with whoever stands in the way of what's best and fair for us.

  • After reading the blog title, I thought this was about gay trade unionists.

    • ...and now I can't unsee it....thanks for that Badger

  • Rd 1 2025 we got beat by 50 and I'm sure we all thought oh boy this is going to be a rough go for Ryles and co. But he kept at it and by the end of the season turned the club completely around. Think it's now being reflected in the front office

Here's the post match presser from that game. Have a look at Ryles behaviour, didn't slouch in his seat, didn't cross his arms, maintained eye contact, didn't look away, provided honest responses, remained calm, accepted personal responsibility for the performance and found positives.

A lot can be learnt from a person's behaviour (particularly in times of crisis).

I knew after watching this we've got our man. To be honest I would have been more worried if we'd flogged them and Ryles was cocky and thought this head coaching gig is a piece of piss.

I like the sound of Matthew Beech, someone who is observant and doesn't feel the need to grandstand or impress is a fantastic asset.

      • It was a helluva intro to First grade and yeah, he took it like a champ. If he felt any panic he didn't show it
