‘I needed it’: Arthur reflects on Eels sacking

Leeds: Former Parramatta coach Brad Arthur says he’s a better coach now than the one who was sacked by the Eels last year, admitting it was time for both him and the club to go their separate ways.

“A lot of people said I looked relieved and happy, and I felt like I was at the time,” he said about his mid-season sacking

“I was grateful for the opportunity they gave me. Eleven years, it was a great life and my family got to live a great life. There were negatives with it, but there were plenty of positives with it. I wouldn’t change any of it at all. Probably there’s some lessons there that I maybe knew or some things that I knew I needed to change or got wrong. But sometimes you don’t make those until you get sacked or terminated.

“I’ve looked at it from a perspective of ‘it is what it is, I’ve had a good life and enjoyed it, but what can I learn from it’? So if I got any opportunities again moving forward, is there anything that I could do differently? But I feel a lot of that just comes with time and experience. You don’t learn from anything unless you make mistakes. It’s just making sure you don’t make them over and over.”

      • From memory he was on the ropes that year and we made a run and he got extended. So stupid.

We played a weak Cowboys side to get into the GF ..theyve been rubbish since. I think taking a look at what was going on at the club back then , going depper than even on field results.. its clear to see the culture was rubbish.

We had players not willing to stick around - guys like Reed, Oregon Kaufusi were leaving for greener pastures. Young players not named Jake Arthur , Sean Russell or Will Penisni wernt getting much of a look in and Dylan Brown and Mitch Moses amongst others had options in their favour in million dollar contracts. That culture is off. None of the players were sacrificing or going all in to win a comp. We just made the GF that year which couldve been any of 5 or 6 teams.

  • Only thing BA left for some was PTSD 😂 fire away.

    • Six Seven

      • He left the club in a worse position than where he found it. That's why now he's not getting any offers fron Australian clubs. Even the Woy Woy wombats rejected his approaches

        • I disagree he left the club in a worse spot than when he started. 2013, under Stuart and with the failed tradie Steve Sharp as Chairman, we came last. The year he left, we came 3rd last. Arthur's first year, in 2014, we came 10th, only missing the finals due to a horrendous F/A, largely due to poor defence.

        • No, the club was in a much better position by the time he left. Some of that is down to the admin side of things, but he brought through many of the players who Ryles has kept, even if Ryles has changed the way he asked them to play.

        • Really why don't you take Moses Lomax Paulo Hopgood Moses Brown to name a few out of this side and see how good it is.Wait take Moses out and how are Parra looking lol.

The best player in the farken team was left by the past regime and we've seen how dog pooh we look without him.

You act like Ryles joined a team full of nobodies.

  • Some of the comments...absolutely brutal!! Love it. No love lost here for BA, I'm glad this prick is gone from the club. I was done with him as far back as 2014 IIRC. My partner used to laugh at me complaining about his one dimensional game plan every god damn season.

The fact he wasn't a look in for either the Bears, or what I believed the stars were aligning for, the Knights, speaks volumes. The other clubs don't like the smell of his bullshit. He can join the likes of Geoff Toovey of submitting his resume on every head coach position, and it going straight into the bin.

  •  Thank you Saratinos for pissing this nepotist off.

It only took 11 years 😂😂😂
