I'd be up for a new 13. Matterson or Doorey or even Guymer who's been doing well in cup.
Far out I dont think J'maine should be playing in the middle any more, it looks like he can't handle it any more. Maybe they should trial him at left second row since he has leg speed and its a bit less contact. Put Matterson to start at lock then bring on Dylan Walker
To be honest, i do not mind that idea.
The roster is a mess. (This is on purpose remember, it's not an accident)
Jnr has been a standout. He's playing as good as I can remember. He looks fit AF. After him there are no genuine middles. None.
Williams and Kautoga are legitimate edge players. Williams is a gun edge and Kautoga is getting better. They should be given the chance to own those spots full time and form combinations but due to the ineptitude of our R&R committee we have to move them into the middle, and then back out to an edge, and then back to the middle again. It's musical chairs as we try to cover for a lack of middle forwards.
Matterson isn't a metre eating prop, he's a 13 and he's out of favour anyway getting either small minutes or doesn't play.
Hopgood could be a prop, he should be a metre eating front rower but instead he shares lock duties with Walker.
Moretti is great,I like him but he's not overly big and can struggle for metres in tough yardage. He'd be great off a bench role. He'd be amazing if we had 3 other genuine middles to help out.
Doorey has had enough chances, his motor isn't big enough for NRL and he's gassed quickly on an edge.
Joash playing hooker is a dumb move. Hooker is a specialist position and Mann showed up his poor defence to put the game out of reach by stepping straight past him.
Samrani and Russell are about the same, not overly quick, not horrible, but not going to win you the game either. Outside backs are meant to win you the game!
Penisini is horrendously out of form. I haven't seen him play this bad in a long time.
We got lucky with Smith but he's young and can't play 80 minutes for 26 rounds.
Brown is leaving and we don't have his replacement.
I greatly admire the way the team plays. Our defence hasn't been this organised in a decade or more. But it's beyond obvious that we don't have the personnel to execute Ryles' game plan. Something has to give here. Either we get the players we need to enact the coach's vision or despite excellent effort we will continue to lose games albeit bravely. But since there are no best and fairest awards or most improved awards and the only thing that truly matters is winning, I'd suggest MON and co get off their butts and get JR the players he needs. Or we can forget about playing finals for many years.
We have freed up all this money, i think by design not this all of a sudden thing where it is free but we were planning on making a play in 2027, no we freed it up quick and want to free more up with Lane and Matto. That you would think is to make a splash in the market, but crickets so far on any players. Galvin is really the only player we have reportedly went hard for.
Makes you wonder is Ryles going the juniors route? But then what to do with money instead of front loading deals? I mean we need at least one more forward and we need someone like JWH or JFH, someone who is a prick and just a niusance in the middle of the field. We have some hard players but need someone intimidating in the middle. It is why i mentioned how i would go for NAS a few months back and still stand by that he would be a perfect signing for us.
The market was bare before the money freed up and it is getting barer the longer we go. Only thing we can do, if we want to go external, is the manipulate the market with the money we have and try to get players to get our early. NAS and Fifita are two i would strongly target. Big players and are dominant in attack.
