Sam Moa take a bow I loved our physicality and defensive contact the whole game.
All but a TDS poor defensive read we hold the sharks to zip.
13/15 with the ball 2 handling errors and the above is now the benchmark it's exactly the type of stats you build your side around and take some confidence down to Melbourne. This has to be the floor if we want consistency.
We now have depth within the club which is great to see.Tuivaiti looks like he's grown this off season and looks like he could really adds some impetus in the middle of the park.In saying that though I saw it again when he gets tired he'll get targeted like he did tonight missed on the repeated effort.Seen this before.
TDS I don't know man you haven't got me convinced yet.
The big units coming on all added something in attack and defense I thought as above there's definitely depth and if they stay on track we could have a devastating pack in a year or 3.
Defensive effort can't be questioned tonight for the most part I loved the inside pressure and the first up contact which really secures the edges love it.
Errors were to a minimum again this performance has to be our floor not our ceiling.
Great first hit out it leaves you wanting to see more.
We have to see what Ryles sees. He agreed to giving him a deal 2 years longer than Smith. He knew what he had with Smith when signing Da Silva, wasn't like Smith all of a sudden performed after Da Silva was signed. So Ryles sees something and perhaps is banking on Da Silva being the future. But if by early 2027 Da Silva hasn't got it, Smith is still here.
Coryn, didn't you say you could tell by the first trial last year we wouldn't be ready for Round 1? Do you feel different now? Sorry if i misquoted you.
More positive this year I didn't too much care for the score but I can see more connection defensively I can see inside pressure.I can see a lower error count I can see more physicality from our middles with and without the ball.I can also see with time there's more integration of how comfortable players are within the setup both FG and development they all look well entrenched.
Thats a good thing as when players get injured when we talk next man up there shouldn't be too many issues slotting right in.Make no mistake Melbourne will be tough down there but I think we are light years ahead of where we were last year purely because we are still using the pill and not making any errors. So yes I want to see more and if we can continue to improve I don't see why with our strongest line up we can't play finals footy this year.
I know it's a trial and the sharks were terrible, but our kids second half defence was impressive, you can see we are heading in the right direction under Ryles.
The fact that Ryles put Ryda Talagi on midway through the first half shows how highly rated and the respect Ryles has for him. Unlucky to get that knock, but he looked bigger than nearly every player out there. Only 19. Well proportioned athlete

"I can recall some time ago an entire blog dedicated to saying how shit Russell is and that he isn't nrl standard. Look at him now, I said the exact same thing after he signed with Perth that he is the one player who would have been nice to hang on…"
"Russell saved Tago twice in try scoring situations against us. One was when Tago was bumped off effecting a tackle close to the line and Russell came in and stopped a certain try. The other was when the ball was grubbered into the in goal and Tago…"

I agree. TDS is still young but for me Smith is the better player and the one I rather keep
