Game Day Blog - Sea Eagles vs Eels

Tonight we see the battle of Brooky with the Eels again up against Manly, but this time on their turf and with a no doubt strong sense of redemption after a controversial win for the Eels a few weeks ago. Sanders makes his debut in a massive game, particularly for our boys. I have a feeling that we are going to get our arses handed to us tonight and face another week of media scrutiny and talk about BA in general.

So, who wins and by what margin?

MOM?

Go you Eels!!!

  • It's not a fitness thing. We're fit enough.
If tonight was an aberration playing away from home I'd be ok with it. But we were super desperate because of our season and when things don't go 100% shit goes downhill real quick.
Too much dropped ball - that's a team lacking confidence. That was the main issue.
Sivo brain explosion- probably cost us the game. I can't explain that. I don't know what runs through his head. He should never play NRL again. I've said it for months. I'm done with him.
Overall we weren't horrific as expected.
But what do you want from your NRL team?

    • He also scored 3 tries and he's one of the very few outside backs in our squad who is a try scoring threat. Yes it was very dumb but I've never seen him do an intentional act like that before. I agree it wasn't good but to say he shouldn't play first grade again - who comes in?

End of the day Moses plays we probably go on and win. We look leaderless without Moses and we lack IQ without Moses

      • Agreed, without Sivo we aren't even in the game. Russell had 0 tries after 7 games. Sivo had 3 in 40 minutes. He's a finisher. A specialist. Without him, we can't finish a thing.

        • We go left in attack 9/10. We always have. I'd be interested to see how many tries are scored on our left compared to right over the last five years.

        • 100%.

Some people just don't get it.

Yes he has his issues but no more than Simonsson or Russell does.

The difference is, he is a prolific try scorer.

        • Sivo was dumb no argument. I think Arthur had them totally amped up and manly got away with some grubby shit. But you don't throw away a weapon like Sivo when you are going shit. Let's get the team going well and then you evaluate his place in it. I'd like to see him outside lomax

      • Yeh I get that but let's be real. Russell scores those 3 tries. So what?

        • No he doesn't. He got a look at the line last week and he fucked it.

          • He scores 2 of them without even trying. I could have scored 1 or 2 of them. There is no doubting his stats but to say that means he is a great NRL winger is a red herring. He is an NRL winger with very good stats but that doesn't tell the full story. He is a catch and put down specialist... I reckon 80% or more of his tries are scored by any NRL winger.

I don't think Russell is any good either but the comparison doesn't work because it's just comparing end stats... not the game, the plays run, the situation etc. If Sivo scored all his tries and they were tries that no one else could have... fair enough. If Russell had been thrown as many final balls with an open line as Sivo has and then somehow bombed them with no one in front... then also fair enough. Neither are true though.

Then add in his lack of oomph on hitups, add in his hiding on the wing and not even taking a hitup even when the play is on his side (did it multiple times tonight), add in the greatest mystery on / off leg injury ever seen... post hitup = limp... open tryline, leg is good, post try, leg is good... go figure. Kinda like his old hold the neck and take 48 mins to play the ball every single time. Add in some fairly regular appalling defensive reads. Add in the risk of suspension due to poor tackling technique. On top of all this... then roll in the DUMB... dumb people look at this bloke and say wow, he's dumb.

I'd take many other outside backs or wingers over Sivo without a second thought.

"Agree.
There would be more analysis in this blog of HOE's than has occurred by the Board we have the whole time they've been there.
The stats paint a picture of something highly alarming and as you say, something that is absolutely not BAU or to be…"

Michael Ericson replied to Hell On Eels's discussion Houston In Hindsight: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
"Exactly. He was never those things yet people were fine with him when we had Fergo on the other wing because as a combo it worked. I'm not saying there isn't a couple of bad things that have crept into game over the last 12 or 18 months particularly…"

BEM replied to Hell On Eels's discussion Houston In Hindsight: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
"I don't get the Sivo hate.
He has never been a metre eater or a speed machine.
He has always been there as a finisher and he is one of the best finishers in the business with an enviable strike rate.
As for his defence, he is no worse than…"

LB replied to LB's discussion Tevita Taumoepenu now at South Sydney
"I understood the appeal of Taumoepenu who was 21 at the time of the deal i believe. He was a workhorse Prop, had some form in NSW Cup and wanted to develop him further. But there is no need to give him a top 30 deal for 2024.
But on top of that, we…"
