FB rumour.

Some stuff floating around that Jeral Skelton is on his way out of the Tigers and coming to Parra

A rumour at this stage

But it is believed the Eels were originally interested in a loan but now with Skelton out of favour at the Tigers a longer deal may be on the table.

    • I mean he would be another stop gap right? We have a serious issue with outside backs. Honestly only Iongi and Fox deserve their positions for 2027, I hate that Will isn't performing, I am a big fan of his, brought in at 18 and projected so well. Past two years he has fallen off a cliff.

      • Skelton is another Pensini/Kelly. Strong out of yardage and cant do a great finish. But can't defend and has shit hands. Suspect under the high ball too.

But yes, I am disappointed with Pensini progression. Remember calling for his debut years ago thinking he was the next big thing.

        • I wonder if Penisini will be out v Cowboys? He didn't pull up well and that RTS try Ryles absolutely abused him on. Samrani back gives him an option and Nanva does too to be fair.

          • Russell-Samrani-Nanva-Fox should be our backline for a few games until we figure out what the hell is going on.

        • Penisini has not only stagnated but has gone backwards in a few areas - I don't think anyone saw it coming, he was showing so much progression, and had a great foundational skillset to work from. It just looked like he needed polish and a bit of maturity.

But his basics have all regressed and his polish and maturity/game awareness haven't come.

Happens sometimes, but I actually feel like we did all the right things in terms of retaining Penisini, he's just not come good. He may well go to another team and suddenly click and come good, but he doesn't seem like he's going to become the player we'd all hoped at Parra.

          • Funnily enough his best defence was in his first 2 years of NRL when he was like 18-20 years old. Since then its gone backwards every year. Same with his basic skills and understanding of the game as you mentioned.

        • Agree. Skelton is a good Jake Tago replacement. We also don't need wingers IMO. Centres.....

        • I can't help but wonder, had Peninisi been under Bellamy or Bennett in his junior days, they could have honed him into a really damaging no.9

As a centre he lacks size, speed, importantly skill and defensively he's not great.

Yes, he runs damn hard for his nuggety size. I can really see him defending in the middle well, with aggression, where attackers run straight at him and as a dummy half close to the try line, can be a handful. He reminds me of the Cheese in many ways. He has an ideal size to be a no.9

I know it will never happen, now with soon to be 20 teams, he'll play centre somewhere I guess, if not at Parra. I just think he could be a much better hooker than he'll ever be as a centre.

Back to Skelton. Yes, just another stop gap until we break the bank for someone like Herbie.

      • Thing is Gucci, who on the market right now would you sign that a club would be happy to let go to fill in? As it says rumoured to have wanted a loan deal. He would have played on the Wing for Simonsson for the year.

That is the problem as there is nobody else and in the lower grades we have no actual Wingers to come in. We have Centres but that is it.

If i was to go through and see who would be a nice option. Only one would be Jesse McLean, but with Jenkins apparently set to move on i doubt they let him go.

I mean we do have a unique opportunity for a NSW Cup Winger in that a spot full-time is open. No guarentees that Simonsson starts 2027, or even comes back at all. We have yet to sign anyone for 2027, despite the Jenkins links and even then we have a Centre spot too. But the clubs have to agree to let them go and all that is out there are players with some NRL experience teams don't want or those yet to debut who are a risk.

If Skelton comes here, hopefully it is not long term and he can do a job.
