Eels V Manly 3-2-1

What a game, one of our best this year. I found it hard to leave Junior , Rylie Smith (55 tackles and pressure on kicker) and Samrani out. But they were huge.

My picks go to

3 Points - Dean Hawkins - Stepped up  to lead the team around when others didn't.Kicking on point and 4 try assists. 635 kicking metres, 20 tackles and 2 line break assists.

2 Points- Iongi -  How good was he with speed, popping up on the edge causing havoc and his bomb difusuals were some of the best. Ran for 264 metres, 1 try, 70 post contact metres, zero missed tackles.

1 Point - Williams - what a workhorse, played 73minutes in the middle, 195m with 18 hitups, 79 post contact metres, 32 tackles.

      • Spot on AE. His precision passing set up most of the positive moves along the backline.

His defence was also very necessary (nearly like old times) when needed, he handled the big Ocka very well.

The dingbats on here never cease to surprise me when they watch a game, but really have no appreciation of what makes a team play come to pass.

I think that Dyllan is no where near his best, hasn't been since his ACL tear and the burnout of everything he had to do in the past 12 months.

He has still has more class (shame about his kicking game) than most of his counterparts. Newcastle have fcuked up badly and that is a win for Dyllan.

Finally if we happened to get Galvin and we are allowed to keep DB (assuming he is not part of a multi deal) then I think he would be perfect in the centres to take us where ever this season may still take us.

        • Love how your thinking Pops

      • It's the whole singular narrative I don't like that whole right side pretty much shut down the Manly right side shut it down they didn't score a point.

  • 3 Hawkins

    2 Iongii

    1. Walker

    Honourable mention: Williams, Kautoga, Papalii

    • Kautoga is improving every week.

  • 3 Ryley Smith

    2 Walker

    1 Hawkins

  • 3. Hawkins

    2. Walker

    1. Iongi/Williams

  • We are well coached serious football team make mistake,  Ryles and the coaching staff have worked out a formaula to Fatigue team out slowly through constant ball movement - we don't need to rely on individual it's a team first approach -  forget chasing the collision 💥 teams will handle this game plan. Well done to Jason and the coaching the skill level of the teams and individuals has lifted. I believe a top 4 finish is not such a ridiculous idea. GO THE MIGHTY EELS 🥇

    • If anything we as a squad are fitter than the last few years. Even the first month of footy, we were awful but we finished games well at times. Proved our fitness is a lot better. Once that is sorted the rest will come.

      • Mick, make "no mistake"

I like your comment about a top 4 finish, I have been thinking is a 2009 finish possible. If we could happen to grab Galvin for the rest of this year and move DB in the centres, we become a different animal.
