Begs the question. If his knee is chronic, is us even giving him $650k for one season even worth it. The value we see with Junz is experience. But that experience we want on the field too. We have a lot of good young middles, Junz is valuable to them. But as well when on the field he is.
How many more games does Junz miss with this issue? Added to that is the fact he is already rested and looked after, he will not only come back to pre-season later, but he might not do much pre-season at all due to his knee and managing it.
Also, no club can actually force a player to sit out of rep duties. Can they recommend it or say they don't want them playing? Of course, but the player ultimately decides to play or not. So not much we can really do there other than simply pulling the contract and he is left to either go to SL or Perth.
Should Paulo be picky? I mean that's human nature sometimes, I don't blame him getting beat deal possible. But also at the same time, he his mucking us around as well. Both parties have not done well with this.

We have to be open to (and entirely comfortable with) the distinct possibility that an agreement is not reached with him and he has already played his last game at the eels. This issue of caring doesn't come into it unless he agrees to the terms being offered. You say we are trying to extend him, we should be going to a lot less effort and move on to other opportunities.
You make a valid point Adam, personally I wouldn't be that ruthless about, there is a relationship of some note with him, but in terms of signing him now, there is no need now......we are in the same situation if he had gone to Perth. Obviously we want to look after him, we have offered a after playing career to my understanding and he has a wonderful understanding with the Samoan's in our club.
Though if Parra feel the need for an experienced forward is necessary then they are prioritising Paulo.
Though his options are limited anyway. But they can care in the sense of we are offering a deal, we want him to be ready to go or else our deal is gone. With limited options it could be a play in our favour.
I dont think its the knee that the sole issue, Paulo is injury prone. If its not the knee, its his foot. Cant stop him from playing for Samoa but he should be focusing on getting his body right for the start of the year. Ryles is under pressure and he needs the top 17 playing as many games as possible next year.
How is Paulo injury prone, he has averaged 20 games a season over the last 5yrs.

Just don't sign Paulo until world cup is over. If he gets injured again then his career at parra is over.
Though not so much if he gets injured but the wear and tear could be a factor. That haults his pre-season and maybe causes a similar situation to this year where he needs a knee scrape and misses 6 weeks.
no issue at all, just pull the offer and up grade another junior or a junior from another club or offer it to Frizell as he offers more than Paulo gives his all and more experienced.
I really wanted Junior to stay, mainly because he's been a great servant to the club. He's a parra person, and he deserves to play his 300th in the Blue and Gold.
However, with that being said - there needs to be compromise from Junior if he wants this too. He's not even worth $650k, so the fact that offer has been rejected is very concerning. If he's going to be difficult, I'd back the club if they say this is our final offer take it or leave it.
Let's be honest, no other club is offering him more than that and I don't think he'd be interested in playing overseas either.
