      • Papalii is definitely a better player right now, based on their comparative form in NSW Cup, but he's also two years older than Talataina, who should develop more quickly.

        • "more quickly" interesting because Pappy has the experience and Lorenzo doesn't....more quickly implies that Lorenzo is a better player and will surpass Pappy....is that correct?

          • No it means Papalii is closer to his peak, since he is two years closer to peak age (whatever it is). Assuming they both peak at the same age (might not happen that way, but we need to make the assumption for the sake of comparing them), let's say 26, Papalii is five years away while Talataina is seven years away.

Then there's the idea of diminishing returns. The closer a player gets to his peak, the less improvement he has left in him, and the slower he improves (i.e. less improvement per year). Players get their fastest gains (improvement per year) early in their career, which Talataina is closest to. Papalii is two years further from the point Talataina is at, so his gains will be coming more slowly. Assuming (again, we have to make assumptions so we can compare a hypothetical future situation) they will be equally as good, then Talataina should catch up to Papalii in seven years. But if Talataina will become better then he could catch Papalii in fewer years (e.g. two or three) and overtake him shortly afterwards.

Either way, the gulf between the two players (and there is a gulf; Papalii was awesome in NSW Cup this year while Talataina was average) should decrease each year, and if Talataina is going to become a better player then he will overtake Papalii at some point. The question is when.

            • Probably that last paragraph was all you needed to say LOL

  • News in, Eels have offered Tino F a 1yr deal before he goes to the Perth bears

    • Good idea if true. Or are you sharing a dumb joke?

      • Pou, the fact that we can't tell if he is joking is awful

        • Not really. Both circumstances make sense. We need to win as many games as possible this year, and even having Fa'asuamaleaui for one year is better than zero. But it's also likely some dope will think it's a bad outcome and worthy of a HUR HUR 1 YEAR DERP type joke.

          • So 3 players on 1yr contracts next year then?....something something about  building a culture

            • We had a bunch of players in their first year at the club this year and they all integrated just fine. We also have several players off contract (Paulo, Walker, Addo-Carr, Penisini, Russell and Tuilagi) and any of them could be in their final year at the club. I epxect them to play their best just like the four who left us right after the grand final. These guys are all in the same position as a one year player. Either not here last year or not here next year. They are professionals. Their job is to win footy games.
