Eels dominate Team of the Season

I thought this was worthy of a mention for those of you who havent heard this yet. Well done to the three Parra players that made it!I was actually quite blown away by the stat that Nathan Hindmarsh has made the team of the year, 6 out of 7 years prior to 2006. Honestly, even for his genius, thats a massive effort, and one that Hindy should be very proud of!Source: Eels Website" Tuesday, 15 December 2009THE Pirtek Parramatta Eels have capped a wonderful year by having the greatest representation of any NRL club in the NRL’s official team of the year, revealed this week in the Big League Annual edited by respected historian David Middleton.Jarryd Hayne (fullback), Nathan Hindmarsh (second row), Fuifui Moimoi (front row) were selected by Middleton in the 2009 top 13, joining some of the game’s superstars who have been chosen annually as the best of each season in Middleton’s official yearbook since 1987.Hayne and Moimoi also made the illustrious annual list of Middleton’s top five players of the year – alongside Greg Inglis, Billy Slater and Ben Hannant.Hayne has universally been regarded as the star of the 2009 season, evidenced by his winning of the Dally M Medal and the International Player of the Year awards. He also picked up the Brad Fittler Medal as New South Wales’ best player in their 2-1 series loss against Queensland.Hindmarsh and Moimoi also both completed outstanding seasons by being chosen to play in the Four Nations tournament in England, Hindmarsh wearing the Australian jersey for the first time since 2007. That took his Test tally to 22, the same as fellow Eels legend of relentless effort, Ray Price. It was the first time Hindmarsh has made the team of the year since 2006 when that was his sixth inclusion in seven seasons – giving him official endorsement as one of the most consistent players of the past two decades. This is the second time Hayne has made the elite list, after being chosen as a winger in 2007. It is Moimoi’s first ‘cap’ in the team of the season.Premiers Melbourne had only two players in the team of the season, Greg Inglis and Cameron Smith, while the Dragons had two in winger Brett Morris and five-eighth Jamie Soward.David Middleton’s team of 2009 is:FULLBACK: Jarryd HayneWINGERS: Brett Morris and Israel FolauCENTRES: Greg Inglis and Justin HodgesFIVE-EIGHTH: Jamie SowardHALFBACK: Jonathan ThurstonFRONT ROW: Ben Hannant and Fuifui MoimoiHOOKER: Cameron SmithSECOND ROW: Nathan Hindmarsh and Anthony WatmoughLOCK: Paul GalleThe Big League annual, which provides a complete statistical look at the Eels’ season (as well as all NRL clubs), major club records and the wrap of the year, is available in newsagents now for $18.95.
