Doorey explores his options

What role is it we expect Doorey to be playing? The eye test says his 17 FG appearances had him playing a bench impact role. Do we imagine all players playing a bench impact role would like to be starters? Probably. So is it a mortal sin for professional players to see what other offers are out there if they harbour ideals of playing bigger roles?

Using Rugby League Eye Test player-contribution tallies for 2025:

- Hopgoode has a Top 20 tackle rate ranking

- Tuivati and Moretti have a Top 20 ranking for: run rate, option run, and involvement

Given Doorey's bench impact role, the ideal stat we would want him featuring in is Top 20 for "% of runs above 8m", where Doorey does NOT feature. This categeory is the impact role, and Taumalolo has been the pace-setter for years (Chook's N. Whyte the merging contender). Or we can consult Zero Tackle for linebreaks, where Doorey is 219 overall, and if filtering by 'Eels', Doorey is less linebreaks (by average) than our back-rowers but more (by average) than all of our other props.

I personally think Doorey has played well and he does seem to fit the JR bill of wanting his forwards to have some mobility.

"I love the ball movement Daz but to win a comp you still need to win the middle, sometimes due to weather , injuries , game styles or otherwise sometimes you just need to barrel through the middle third .

"Yes that's 💯 % . They are saying Pezet is a big injury risk. Had a knee reco , then took another 3 months off this year. With further issues and players who leave Melbourne usually go downhill. They say hes Brodie Croft mark 2 ."

Would rather see blokes like Jeziah Funa Luta and William Latu get a run before this bloke in future. Not fussed if Doorey goes.
