Defeating Storm

Far be it for me to advise the superb Eels coaching team. I have no special credentials as a Rugby League tactician. It’s been my hobby to study Storms playing behaviour.Teams beat storm with gap-free defense & mistake-free attack. Storm hate NOT scoring. Teams who defend with unlimited patience & low-risk attack, have seen Storms behaviour change. Cracks appear in their confidence: Frustration, Missed tackles, Gaps, Tired Forwards, loss of momentum.Storm can be defeated. Brute force is essential, psychology is the key. Grinding storm down, restricting play makers for long periods will pay off. It takes loads of patience. They may not crack until middle 2nd half, but they will. With each point the Storm is allowed - their confidence builds at an exponential rate & you may lose the game. Conversely, when Storm DON'T score, confidence drops dramatically.Go Parraregards,Andrew

  • Good summary Reggae ....hopefully DA has a similar game plan......
  • Well, every team loses confidence when they don't score points
    • Stewie, yes every team loses confidence without points but storm have loads of confidence and it takes more time for them to wear down. A lot of teams drop in morale quite quickly when their opposition are only a couple of tries ahead. Storm aren't phased at this point - they can & have come back when all seemed lost for them. In fact, studying matches involving storm, reveals that teams in front of storm on the scoreboard have a habit of "resting", falling victim to complacency - when battling the storm this is a dangerous mindset to be trapped in. Parra, however, have shown minimal complacency over the 2nd half of the season. Daniel Anderson's a smart coach, he won't overlook the Storm playing behaviour.
  • eels are ready for the storm we will dominate the game and victory will be sweet
  • Here's a great stat to add to the intensity of the game and that rivarly. During the final series Storm have not conceded a point in the first half. Eels have only conceded 4 points in the second half of all of their finals.
  • eels need to play a up-in-your-face style of defense against the storm. They score trys when they are given the room to move.
  • Agree John - Eels entertaining attacking style (similar to Tigers in my opinion) have given them the points. However, I did see some over-excitement by the young backs vs Bulldogs. Daniel Anderson made reference to this "over-excitement" in an ABC radio interview. It is great to see our backs so enthusiastic and thats what will give us the upperhand - but I feel they must keep their excitement in check - you can't give storm too many opportunities.
  • Parramatta will struggle to achieve the tactical components you have outlined, Andrew. Brute force and grinding down are not among the team's qualities, IMO.

Look for a repeat of the same Parramatta game plan for the last 12 weeks. The unpredictable and constant 2nd phase play that is IMPOSSIBLE to defend against, and will leave the big Melbourne forwards constantly backtracking.
  • it is important to keep scoring against storm, i think if we can score 1st try we should try and follow it with field goal, try and force them into charging kicker and give away silly penalties
    • Good point Hugh

"I'd take him for sure and Parra would have a very good shot at getting him too , no chance in hell Jarome would be happy at the tigers so I'd have no doubt that if the right club came along he would take up his get out clause.

"100 percent,  Jerome is winner and he would bring a great energy but I wouldn't break the bank - he was a half back in his early playing days."
