      • yep

    • This one I do not mind actually. I loved Dean but he is a back-up. Pezet can play that back-up 7 role, as in moves from 6 to 7, better I would presume. He was off-contract in 2026 anyway so we needed a new person to take over and this helps with developing Lorenzo in Cup.

    • He asked for a release to secure his long term future. As did Gutho and Reg. Hawkins pursuing Super League in England. Genius, I would have thought.

  • Nice little stint at Parra, he's prob at an age he needs to chase game time probably super leauge bound. Volkman can be the 7 for cup

    • He is going to super league.

If the plan is to play pezet in reserve grade than I'm ok with the deal but I read it was a lucrative 1 year deal which raises questions.

  • Ok so got me thinking. With Hawkins released, this was planned for a while. Is this Pezet deal simply Ryles covering for Moses all along? Would we agree Pezet would be better at replacing Moses than Hawkins? I think some would agree.

Is it simply Hawkins got a deal, wanted to go and Ryles thinks he needs someone for when Moses misses time as he saw how that stuffed us last year. Plus it helps whoever is at 6.

Ok still weird but I'm slowly getting there.

    • I'd say that's it. Ryles wants to carefully manage our young halves, rather than throwing them into the NRL. I also think the off-season will determine who gets the 6 jersey for game 1.

      • Just looking at how we finished the season so strongly and a few of those top 8 sides fell to bits, I think Ryles sees a small window there for us to push into the 8 and give this thing a go. If our best 17 is on the park we are better then the dogs warriors raiders. Just need to keep our best 17 healthy

  • Are footy Dean and Hands both in the top 30? If so both gone we may see Parra finally move in the player market. Hopefully we can snag a disgruntled player before the season begins.

The club will release a player.

The Parramatta Eels will reportedly release half Dean Hawkins to the English Super League after signing Jonah Pezet for 2026.

Pezet has reportedly signed with the Eels for one year, and will then link up with the Brisbane Broncos from the start of 2027.

The Storm half decided to leave the Victorian capital after the club re-signed Jahrome Hughes, allowing him to activate a clause in his own deal.

While not official yet, it's believed the deal is very close to being kicked over the line, with the Eels only ever wanting Pezet for a single season before they turn their attention to other youth working through their own pathways.

The Eels had been looking to Joash Papalii to partner Mitchell Moses in the halves during 2026 after Dylan Brown's departure to the Newcastle Knights, but Pezet is now almost certain to wear the number six.

With Papalii still next in the queue, the The Sydney Morning Herald are reporting it means Dean Hawkins has been handed a release from the remainder of his contract with the club to take up a gig in the English Super League.

While it's unclear which club he has been in contact with, the report suggests Hawkins will be signed to a multi-year deal to head overseas from the start of 2026 where he will look to put himself in the shop window for NRL sides.

Hawkins played a number of games throughout 2025 taking over from an either injured or State of Origin-selected Mitchell Moses, and had solid results.

Instead of being shuffled down the pecking order in the west of Sydney though, he will make the switch around the world where he will chase a regular number seven jumper.
