The North Queensland Cowboys have raised the stakes in their bid to re-sign in-vogue forward James Tamou, after interest from Sydney clubs in the NSW Origin and Kangaroos star. The Cowboys have reportedly offered Tamou a big-money four-year deal that, if accepted, would see the 27-year-old stay in Townsville until the end of 2020 according to foxsports.com.au.Tamou is receiving plenty of interest from a number of Sydney clubs including the Roosters and Parramatta, while many of his premiership teammates have begun to re-sign with the Townsville club. Both Johnathan Thurston and Lachlan Coote are expected to put pen to paper with the Cowboys in the coming weeks.Tamou himself is off contract at the end of 2016, however the Cowboys are reportedly confident of securing all three players.

  • I hope these players have checked the Townsville property market. Those half price apartments aren't worth much any more. They would be losing money.
  • they keep everybody with a pay rise and buy more player and still be under the cap WOW how they do it

we let players go like Paulo and buy no one and still over the cap WOW are we do it

  • All above board - just ask News Ltd.

  • Paul, don't forget the old Bronco excuse was that housing is cheaper in QLD; and there may be some truth in Nth Qld to that...but Market value for a player is still market value.

    • So Mitchy you are saying

cowboys buying home for them  and it don't count under the cap why don't it count

  • Coote must of bought cheap block of land under market value lol!!
  • Coote just signed for a $1mill for 2yrs, anywhere else he would have got $650k a year.
  • Houses for everyone!!!

  • No sorry Paul I was meaning they would use the excuse of cheaper housing in QLD; not implying that anyone is buying houses for them mate. Am at work so had to type fast..

I find it interesting how they keep these guys on v good coin after they win a comp.

  • Funny how Souths couldn't keep the same squad after they won the premiership and haven't been the same since. Roosters finally had to release some players after years of minor premierships and a premiership. Manly the same to an extent. Broncos and Cowboys? Nup. who have Cowboys lost of any significance the last few years? Tariq Sims? lmfao!!!

Plus it frees up some spots like we all know who 5/8 will be but now no idea."
