Clubs monitoring status of Jake Arthur

Jake Arthur may be under contract at the Manly Sea Eagles until the end of the 2025 season, but teams are reportedly closely monitoring his status at the club.

Signed by the Manly Sea Eagles from the Parramatta Eels midway through last season, he has played six games for the club and was even handed a two-year contract extension in September last year.

However, with the arrival of Luke Brooks and the club placing Jamie Humphreys as the third-choice option in the halves, he has moved down the club's pecking order.

With multiple teams around the league lacking depth in their halves, The Daily Telegraph reports that several NRL clubs are closely monitoring his status at the Manly Sea Eagles.

Still only 21 years old, Arthur has spent the beginning of this season in the NSW Cup but is likely to leave if an NRL opportunity comes up at another club.

Primarily playing in the halves, former NRL premiership winner Luke Lewis stated last year that he could see Arthur potentially moving to the forwards as a ball-playing lock.

"He's got some really good footwork, he's strong, he's tough, he goes looking for the ball, always wants to get heavily involved," Lewis said on The Short Side.

"I do believe Jakob Arthur's body shape though, will turn him into a 13."

"Jake's pretty tall, he's a big boy already. But as he puts some more size on, I think he'll be a really nice ball-playing lock."

        • You're right Poppa. The only thing Asi does better is run the ball. His kicking and defence are much worse than Arthur's.

        • Yep miles and miles. Asi is a genuine threat. With Asi in the halves we beat Penrith. He's broken the line on several occasions. With him we'd still be more than a chance of winning our fair share of the next 8 games. With JA we'd be lucky to win 2/8. That's based on JA's record here and at Manly.

    • 😂😂😂

  • If he was playing 6 or 7 this week I'd be ok with that but he doesn't have a future as a 1st choice half in the NRL.

Met him a few times Hes a real nice kid and I hope for the best for him I think a Supet league stunt would do him well

  • JA would be handy to have in lower grades as a break glass option, if he was still here he would be in at 7. But i prefer Talagi in the halves. But if we did have him i wouldn't be too disheartened by it either. He can do a job as an organising half and let Brown do what he needs to.

  • Best thing about Jake Arthur is that he'd happily play 250 games in reserves on min wage.

I agree that he is a lock/13. Just needs to fill out.

Sanders is probably leaving and if so then it'd make sense to bring Jake back.
    Such a shame about Sanders.

  • The less Arthur's at the club the better.

    • 💯

      • Lol. What about Arthur miller Stephens and Jessie Arthur's??????
