Brad Arthur You Champion!

Hearing Brad Arthur on Triple M this morning, I couldn't be happier to have this man in charge of our club! This bloke calls it like it is and has the same attitude about paying players to play elsewhere as we all do. He loves the club and doesn't want people who don't have the passion to pull on the jersey. Our injury crisis and second tier cap will now play a hand in team selections. I suspect that it will be impossible to select a team that will satisfy the fans next week. I also believe that having the boys mentally prepared for a long trip on a Monday night, especially with the injury scenario and Sandow debacle, would be a minor miracle.I'm just glad that we've got a straight shooting Parra bloke in control.

  • Did Arthur indicate whether he would play Sandow or not?

  • Agree. BA is the right coach for us atm. For us to be sitting 1 or 2 games outside the Top 8 is commenable.

But one thought that has been bugging me all day is, "Was BA and the boys blindsided by the disgusting performace of Sandow". I read that Sandow complained about a hamstring twinge at the last training run but the medical/physio checked him out and deemed him right to go. Was this the warning sign that he was not wanting to play? because as we all saw he did not give a yelp for the whole game. To me he was intent on not turning up. Did BA see this coming, if not, how is he going to turn it around in preparation for the Cowboys. I feel if we follow the script after the round 2 loss to the Doggies, we were shot mentally the next game against the Warriors which we lost. Is history going to be repeated.

Come on BA and the Boys, we need only players who turn up 100%, nothing less. Our season is riding on this next match.

    • I know the physio Vicki , has been with eels forever . Was he worked on by her half time ???anyone see??
  • In chief's blog.
  • Anyone got a link?
  • Wouldn't want to spook him
  • If this is the 90 second clip in the blog by Chief, it's a bit selective to characterize the Triple M interview as BA being a "straight shooter".

Yes, BA was a straight shooter when the question was would BA let Sandow go early if no payout was needed. He simply said "yep".

But the interview was predominantly BA dealing with the question of Sansow is being moved on, he has an offer from UK, he might want a payout AND to go early. And in response to that question, BA was full of hesitations and caveats and even back tracks. All the issues, of the cap and game plans and still play for your mate, were jumbled up and it became abundantly clear BA has no consistent rationale for why Sandow still has a place in the team. Now the tough question to ask there is whether BA is managing his playing roster as well as he could if his indecisive tone matches his messages to Sandow?

Now, to be fair, BA seems to be in a tough place. He made what is probably the wise decision to let Sandow go and work with a Foran/Norman halves pairing. It's his job to make the tough calls. And at that point he's got a #7 who knows he is unwanted. But compare this to someone like Bellamy, who regularly extracts 100% from journey-men players, even when they're already signed elsewhere.

Personally, letting Sandow go was confirmed as wise by Sandow's insulting (to fans and his team mates) game against the Dogs. But Hodgkinson is off to the Knights and he played well. Whatever the deal with Sandow, part of the coaches job is to get 100% from his roster no matter what. BA is obviously not getting that, and while that's obviously a lot to do with Sandow, it is troubling that out head coach would oversee relations with a key part of his playing roster deteriorate so much. This Sandow episode is telling us Sandow must go, but also that BA still has some learning to do about player management.
    • Very True Prof,

I asked the question, "Was  BA blindsided by these turn of events"?. Did he have a one on one chat with Sandow to gauge his level of engagement given the release request rejection, Either Sandow was a great actor and gave no indication on what was to come or BA's people management skills need to be questioned because without Sandow controlling the attacking plays the team looked lost in attack and we missed his kicking game which Kelly did a poor job at.

There are always lessons to be learnt from these drama's but we didn't need this at this time of the year. BA needs to get this sorted out ASAP so the team can get settled for the next game. No ifs or buts. Get it Sorted Now

  • Yep, Revo, if Sandow is going to be here for our remaining games, part of the coach's job is to get him contributing. Every footy player has distractions, but the coach has to get them to set them aside come game time. Pretty simple. We will learn alot about BA at the back end of this season.
