Brad Arthur press conference

Another embarassing defeat.

I thought Brad Arthur's comments in the after match press conference revealed a lot about what is going on at the Eels.
Firstly he was clearly frustrated and there were indications that he was "Out of answers"

The following comment was particularly telling. Arthur was talking about the players making "soft choices,"
to which he then added "The players have to fix it. We can only talk about it so many times.
The players have to fix it don't they."

The comment clearly suggests that Arthur was not just referring to the players attitude in this particular match, it indicates
that he has noticed this "attitude" over a significant period of time.

The comment also indicates that he has spoken to the players about this a number of times. The frustation in Arthur's  voice indicates that whatever way he has attempted
to address this has not worked. It has not made a consistent impact among the greater part of the playing group. This seems to indicate that there are
some players who aren't happy with the way Arthur has gone about this.

The sub text of what Arthur is saying is that there are a number of disgruntled players among the playing group.
A few disgruntled players can affect the whole team dynamic as everyone knows.

The best "man manager" coaches know how to address this.

It would seem, based on these comments that Arthur cannot be placed in that
category.

          • The Canberra and Dolphins game is probably the two worst games I've seen Parra play under BA. He's either lost the locker room or needs to fire a rocket up their ass' to get a response from them.

They obviously have the ability to play good football, we beat Manly and Cowboys and we were close against the Panthers. Really depends on who which team wants to turn up.

On a side note fuck Lussick is shit. Time to bring hands and MA on.

          • Wizz I suppose calling out players is loaded with challengung a persons ego. Probably works out if you have respect for the person doing the calling out. If it is a playing the ball [coaching] type of calling out thing it has a better chance of success. Its how you do it.

            • Wiz called out Gutherson "dumb cunt" and Junior "fat fuck" ......sorry Wiz doesn't use derogatory terms at all. I don't know what Steve Sharpe said or did to Fong but he hasn't missed him for 20 years or so!

We are pretty good at all these things Tad, especially some of our weekly guest stars. I might add we are all guilty of it somewhere/sometime......some people even think your into "socialism" tad....LOL..... everyone knows I am an "arrogant prick" Sir Col was a Silly Old Bastard and I was the "great demented one" sometimes you can say things with love! lol

              • I  Poppa I mentioned Terry Fearnley earlier as  Parramatta icon. A sincere lovely man with a quiet respectful nature. For me a character type who earned a lot of respect. Maybe worth a read as a role model.I not sure if we had anyone come close to him in a leadership position since his passing.

Terry Fearnley obituary: Rugby league legend dragged game into professional era
He was one of the greatest coaches and minds of the game and Terry Fearnley sparked a fire in many rugby league players.
                • He and Gibbo were guys who made you proud to be associated with the eels

  • You can't simply " just change your attitude" it takes time to figure out what is holding you back in the process and work it out.Attitude is also contagious. It requires work and understanding how to get there when this rot sets in.. Very difficult to change without the skills of how to self empower others .

    • And a bad attitude can also sometimes be a symptom of boredom

I know from my preschoolers if there is nothing engaging the negative stuff comes out

I would be bored shitless with him 🤷‍♀️

      • Yes Carlo.Probably having a predictive style can be boring. Amazing how the Dolphins energy and enthusiasm went to another level once they scored a couple of good tries based on some great second phase play. If you can do some great combo type play you get excited and want to build on that

        • Exactly

otherwise it's as exciting as working at the Colgate factory putting lids on 🤷‍♀️

          • Arthur teaching attitude, that's a laugh. He's  had 11 seasons to do that. Just accept the fact he's a dud and piss him off.
