I like Simonsson, i think he is a quality player. Though the reason i am not to disheartened by the news is a few things. He has played 56 games in 4 years. On average 14 games per year. No where near enough we need for a quality first grader. Secondly, though games being out doesn't help he also has a range of form. 2022 he was awful bar Canberra game (former club), prelim and GF. 2023 he had a poor start on the Wing, once moved to Centre he became our best player on the back end of that season. Then coming into the middle of 2024 he was getting into some nice form before his ACL. This year he had some ok games, then had a shocker v Canberra.
Someone mentioned it before and they are right. Simonsson is good but he has hit his ceiling. He is better than Russell as he has more natural skills and speed. Russell is a worker and one of his best ability at least for some time is availability.
Simonsson signed a 3 year deal, though i felt it was Ryles who gave it the all clear, since he signed after Ryles was announced, perhaps Simonsson was done before Ryles. Therefore Ryles gave it a go and has seen all he needs to see. Simonsson could also have gotten more money and a better opportunity wherever he is to go.
NQ wanted him this year and need backs still. NZ have uncertainty at Centre, RTS might go back to Union and Kosi signed with Souths, could he head back home?
Though Simonsson is a good player, we can definately upgrade. Plus, is it risky to rely on him? Perhaps.
We have Richie Penisini in the lower grades. Is it his opportunity now?
I think it's pretty obvious the eels need to shed a player or 2 to get a one or 2 big signings over the line. Simo is great and I love him but he does have an error in him and so bad defensive reads
Well right now Simmonson looks to be set and gone during the off season, we still need to sign a centre as our backline is stretched thin. And knowing the Eels luck they have non stop injuries. Who could be some options, Jake Averillo, Stafford Toa, Adam Doueihi, Phillip Sami, etc

I would love khan piera from the titans and put lomax back in the centres. In saying that I am very interested in seeing how much Russell keeps slowly improving. He reminds of a Joel reddy
"I said this exact thing at the start of the year and got shouted down by a few posters. We were meant to be that well run club prior to Ryles getting here but it's now clear that we were not. MON is meant to be the guy who ensures that sustained…"
"I don't get leaving Dylbro out of this side now. The future may start now but Hawkins is not our future 5/8 either so really, what is the point here? That Cowboys side looks very decent. wet weather could play a part but on a dry track the Cowboys…"

Lookiing in, seems since he was dropped for his poor defensive reads, he hasnt taken it to well. See ya
Averillo as a replacement?
I think very possible
I might be wrong but let me post again, who says this is Bailey getting told to go?
THIS IS BAILEY's DECISION. As far as I can see. I don't think Ryles told him he's surplus.
He's a decent player, gave us good service but is far from a match winner and not going to get any better.
I have great respect for Simmo. Let him go if he wants to.
