Josh Addo-Carr cleared in roadside test before Eels meeting

Parramatta winger Josh Addo-Carr’s second result from a roadside drugs test has come back negative, just hours before he is scheduled to front the Eels board about his future.

Addo-Carr allegedly tested positive to cocaine at a random police roadside test in September. However, police on Monday informed him that the second test result provided a result for no drugs, meaning there will be no further action from police.

The development comes amid speculation that Addo-Carr was poised to be sacked at Parramatta headquarters tonight, where he is scheduled to address Eels directors.

With players poised to return to pre-season training, the Eels were keen the matter to a head. To that end, Addo-Carr has been to provide his version of events. Now, it appears that a career that appeared over could resume with the blue and golds.

The premiership-winning winger is a popular member of the club on and off the field. Addo-Carr has scored 27 tries since joining Parramatta last year.

Addo-Carr is expected to be accompanied by lawyer Elias Tabchouri and agent Marcel Tartak when he fronts directors this afternoon. The former Storm star was sacked after providing a positive roadside test while employed at Canterbury over a separate incident.

If Addo-Carr had been guilty of a second incident, it would have resulted in an automatic 12-game suspension.

Addo-Carr, who lost a sponsorship deal with automotive firm JAC, spent about a month in a rehabilitation centre to deal with off-field issues.

The Eels were already making contingency plans. They had been in discussions with Melbourne centre Jack Howarth, but have opted to abandon those negotiations. They have also been linked to Penrith’s Blaize Talagi, but if there is to be any pursuit it will be for 2028 due to his Achilles injury.

Newcastle winger James Schiller is a potential signing for 2027, while Bradman Best and Jack Bostock have been linked to the Eels for the following year.

  • If we keep Addo-Carr and sign Schiller, our depth suddenly looks good on the wing

  • Did I say 'eels are back baby'?

  • So he won't be hit with a 12 week suspension? The Fox is back brah!!

    • Prayer's get answered.

The timing of this announcement was interesting (maybe/maybe not coincidental) given the result comes out the same time management  to meet.

Now given that he has been in rehab and still "virtually" admitting he has a problem, I am going to guess this result was known and now it is a case of "lecturing" explaining expections and stances and no more second chances.

Shit I hope some "woke" prick on our board does not want to make an example of him!

Just reinterate one thing, those who thought JAC was ordinary last year, think of the fact he played most of the season carrying "rib injuries".....he is far from a spent force.....just explain to him we have other players doing hit ups and not to waste himself trying to carry the "slack arses" we have/had?"

My guess is over 60 metres, he still 5 metres faster than anyone else we have!

    • No as it was negative when driving.

  • Who paid who. Surely this is a 0.01% chance of actually happening. Im stoked for the bloke honestly. But what are the chances... bloke even went into rehab, he actively admitted to being on it, most of the NRL is. Im actually shocked. Lets trot baby

    • The chances were always around the 5%,  it happens, don't spoil it by implying otherwise, we have enough "dopes" on here that will think it is true.

      • You are correct mate, looks like there is a strictly mandated concentration percentage that has to be hit on a B Sample. Swabs looks like they are more sensative.

    • Or just maybe the cops had it in for him? Its not like that's never  happened.

      • Would not surprise Analyst......I bet you he is finding out some of his true friends now....looking at you Wizard.....why don't you kick him again when he is not down.....your the fcuking expert on the drug scene, I am sure you will rationalise it in someway to imply a "fcukwit" somewhere.
