Josh Addo-Carr cleared in roadside test before Eels meeting

Parramatta winger Josh Addo-Carr’s second result from a roadside drugs test has come back negative, just hours before he is scheduled to front the Eels board about his future.

Addo-Carr allegedly tested positive to cocaine at a random police roadside test in September. However, police on Monday informed him that the second test result provided a result for no drugs, meaning there will be no further action from police.

The development comes amid speculation that Addo-Carr was poised to be sacked at Parramatta headquarters tonight, where he is scheduled to address Eels directors.

With players poised to return to pre-season training, the Eels were keen the matter to a head. To that end, Addo-Carr has been to provide his version of events. Now, it appears that a career that appeared over could resume with the blue and golds.

The premiership-winning winger is a popular member of the club on and off the field. Addo-Carr has scored 27 tries since joining Parramatta last year.

Addo-Carr is expected to be accompanied by lawyer Elias Tabchouri and agent Marcel Tartak when he fronts directors this afternoon. The former Storm star was sacked after providing a positive roadside test while employed at Canterbury over a separate incident.

If Addo-Carr had been guilty of a second incident, it would have resulted in an automatic 12-game suspension.

Addo-Carr, who lost a sponsorship deal with automotive firm JAC, spent about a month in a rehabilitation centre to deal with off-field issues.

The Eels were already making contingency plans. They had been in discussions with Melbourne centre Jack Howarth, but have opted to abandon those negotiations. They have also been linked to Penrith’s Blaize Talagi, but if there is to be any pursuit it will be for 2028 due to his Achilles injury.

Newcastle winger James Schiller is a potential signing for 2027, while Bradman Best and Jack Bostock have been linked to the Eels for the following year.

    • He has been charged with nothing, therefore he doesn't come under the bracket of any wrong doing at all. No proof he had any cocaine at all that night or the nights before.

i doubt the NRL or Parra have any grounds to suspend him. At most he might get a fine. But if he was to be suspended by the NRL, RLPA i reckon would have a field day.

    • For what? A false positive?

  • Well this changes everything, should be no real punishment attached to it. Id still sign Schiller for depth purposes but

  • Why did he go to rehab? Because he wasn't using coke??

    • Lot of the players use coke, it's the driving while under the influence the nrl doesn't like. If he wasn't positive while driving then nrl doesn't have a leg to stand on

    • Maybe he does use it. Just in this case he hadn't and everything is null in void.

    • Maybe the mental anguish of being charged for something he could not be sure of.

Its been stated on here by many people that cocaine usage is common with these athletes, driving was held out to be the serious side.....the mental effect of being booked again, he assumed he was innocent the first time.....could have been enough to send anyone into rehab!

    • that what confuses me

      • EA, I am not sure how many wrongs make a right....but lets go back to the Dog's scenario, he assured Gould who went into to bat for him that he was innocent, it proved to be wrong but lets assume that he honestly thought he was innocent and we now know these things are not reliable, maybe he was????

Go forward 2 years he is driving again and picked up for the same offence and he believe he is innocent, but look what happened last time? he has every right to have a nervous breakdown and I am sure he would have received advice to go straight to rehab.....i.e. his minders say we need some legs to stand on if the 2nd Test is positive.

So are you still confused why he went to rehab....it was the safest move and probably hasn't hurt him, after all every man and his dog seems to be on the stuff and it won't do him any harm if he decides to look elsewhere for a new hobby!

    • Porn addiction I heard.

"They won't, unless he's admitted he's a regular user of cocaine during the season hence his rehab visit. Then they can do as they wish.  My guess is there will be zero further action. But it's not written in stone the clubs hands are tied . "
