‘Do we need to be trying to score?’: Arthur slams Eels’ ‘execution’ amid Sivo blunder
Mark St John from Fox Sports:
Eels coach Brad Arthur has blasted his side’s execution after they blew a number of match winning opportunities against the Storm most notably a Maika Sivo kick on tackle one that went dead.
The Storm won 16-12 thanks to a golden point try from Harry Grant, but the Eels had plenty of chances in regulation to ice the game.
On one play Josh Hodgson went blind with Mitchell Moses screaming for the ball open for a field goal.
We were in the position to win it and we just needed to ice a couple of moments in the game.”
Arthur refused to blame Sivo’s moment exclusively, but he admitted it was one of several big moments his side got wrong.
“It is not that one in particular, but it might have been six or seven minutes to go from a scrum, do we need to be trying to score?” Arthur said post match.
“We probably needed to just build a bit of pressure and keep it simple and set for a field goal.
“It doesn’t matter if you win 13-12 or 18-12.”
Eels skipper Clint Gutherson echoed his coach’s frustration, admitting his disappointment that his side couldn’t ice the game winning plays in a match they dominated for large periods.
“I don’t know I think we just didn’t nail them,” Gutherson said.
We had probably three or four chances at the back end and even into extra time there we had chances to get into position to have a shot and we just didn’t take the right option.
“We have got to learn from it, but it was very disappointing.”
Arthur still took some positives over his undermanned side’s performance, but was visibly annoyed that they couldn’t get the job done at the death.
“I feel like we did enough and put ourselves in position to win that game,” Arthur said.
“We always knew they were going to be tough and we always knew it was going to be a tight contest, especially at the start of the year.
“Both teams were a bit rusty with some of their execution, but we completed high and we played good field position and we tackled well.”

On point this article. One thing that strikes me in the onfield leadership dept. Gutho regulary uses the words after a loss "I dont know" im starting to believe that maybe he dosnt know, how to fix this communication or brains trust decisions mid game.
Is the answer to give Mitch the Captaincy and therefore all calls are his in attack. This happened last year with Mahoney service at times as well.
Hodgson will be a leader in time but he needs to get on same page as Moses. Hopgood also by years end should be a good voice also.
My feelings are if Moses signs up he should get captain's he is the play maker it's in his court .
I'm not confident he has the temperament to be capt.
I can see the refs developing a real lack of respect for him.
Moses will go to the Tigers. It was obvious there was a disjointed partnership between Moses and Brown which could indicate Brown knows Moses is leaving
What!, what?
From all reports, Wests have given up on Moses coming. They're now looking at George Williams.
we dominated them in so much of the games, this is where Brown & Moses went MIA, im not buying the excuse its just 1st round, these things are inbedded in your skills your paid for.
Fact is they werent that great, we were just bog average.
If Arthur had any balls he'd introduce Dylan Brown or anyone else with that fucked attitude straight to the reserve grade coach. Hopgood showed in his 1st game how to play with pride and passion for 80 minutes. Make him captain.
It is very important we win next week, Cronulla with no Hynes, if we cannot win that at home then we have to consider what we are actually wanting as a team. With this call out by BA, hopefully they get a kick up the arse and come out hammer and tong against Cronulla and take a big scalp.
