Why we should resign Hayne

1. Have a look at the last 10 games. Hayne still has more footy talent than anyone we have in the team.

2. Move on. Hayne is showing on and off the field that he is a team player and leader. Some people need to stop living in the past where Hayne has individual talent but was bad for the team.

3. Hayne is about a premiership and it would be a hollow premiership anywhere but the Eels. He is not about the money or he would have stayed at the Titans.

4. Eels and Hayne winning a premiership is a narrative that will be a big help.

5. Hayne is not blocking a young fullback from coming through- last year showed that Bevan is not near being able to fill that role and Guth was found lacking elite level as well - albeit just back from injury.

6. Hayne will continue to put in 100% because he is playing for a premiership not a contract

Put simply Hayne is part of Parra and still our best back, a positive influence on the team and a leader. He is hungry for a premiership and would make a great fairy tale if we get one with him

Hayne is a better player and a better influence on the team than those earning more than him.

If Hayne wants a premiership he should go for a contract that maximises his chances. Long as possible to maximise his chance and as cheap as possible to free cap space for other players we need to be competitive

Give him a three year contract for 500k a year.

  • Three years lol. He'll probably churn out 20 games in that time.
  • Hayne is the worst influencer on the team, He isnt a leader, He is a bad trainer and he gets away with things because of Talent alone.  Hayne is living on the coattails of the past. The guys is a 2 time Dally M winner and that alone should be enough to elevate him to a legend of the game... will he be remembered that way??? No Hayne will be remembered more as a meme, a running I have a Dream joke.

    • Now or before 2018

      • I think if you look at his career he wont be remembered fondly as one of the best. There arent alot of multiple Dally M winners but lets have a look at them. Thurston - future HOF. Sterling - Speaks for itself, Cam Smith- Also speaks for itself.  These are Premiership winners, Test and Origin Legends and out and out legends of the game.

Then you Hayne, What has he achieved apart from the Dally Ms. No Premierships, 1 winning Origin Series, barely a test, cant even lock down a position at his own club.

        • Sorry outrunna, but beg to differ.

Agree those 3 were exceptional player who kept up a constant high standard of play for most of their careers.

They were also always a part of quality teams, which didnt hurt their claims to be considered greats of the game, and aided them in becoming Premiership winners.

Hayne meanwhile, wasn't always supported by the same quality of team-mates in his career, but still excelled.

Take note of the last time he played for the Kangaroos in '14, where he was unquestionably the best player on ground.

So, unlike you and a few more on here, I'll always recall Hayne as "Simply Brilliant."

          • The biggest problem is that Hayne isnt consistant and for all of the talent that he has he should be producing day In day out. He probably does it for a few games a year.

Do you really think at the end of his career that he will be looked upon as anything but an enigma.?

            • Have to agree with his lack of consistency since he returned from the US.

The fact that Gridiron forced him to shift away from the fitness that was needed in League for his return, alongside being less than content playing on the Gold Coast and then suffering a significant stomach illness when he returned home gives me cause to understand why he was below par for that period.

Midyear he had surgery, he was able to become somewhat fitter and he started to remind the critics what he was capable of. And there's more to come.

So yeah I'm a fan of Jarryd.

              • Richard, i understand what you are saying. I just know Harry's from his earlier days and he is the worst trainer you have ever met. Before he left to the NFL we only had to win a game to get into the semis and we got smashed.

Jarryd head was already In the NFL. Mind you its also the year he won his 2nd Dally M

                • Outrunna, always heard that Jarryd was a lousy trainer but that never stopped him performing.

I was at that game in Canberra high in the main grandstand in "14 when we suffered defeat and so missed the finals.

Hayne scored twice in that loss.

          • Have you ever considered it was the attitude and skills of these players that made their teams quality teams ? Let’s not forget that The Titans were on their way to a very successful campaign before Hayne arrived .  What’s the go there ?   Ahh shit , sorry it was the tummy bug from Fiji ... there’s always excuses .

When players around the likes of Johns, Thurston , Smith etc they become better players . Hayne showed a glimpse in 2009 of this kind of leadership and we had muppets like  Keating , Morts and Jeff Robson looking like superstars .  The difference between the Hayne and these guys are that Haynes an individual player.

He reminds me of the movie Teen Wolf , without the happy ending when he realised he was being a glory hunter .
