PARRAMATTA captain Tim Mannah wants his friend Jarryd Hayne to remain at the Eels because he knows he can be the best player in the NRL.
Mannah’s comments came after Hayne inspired the blue and gold to victory over his old mob Gold Coast at ANZ Stadium on Saturday.
Hayne is off-contract and continues to claim he won’t make a decision on his sporting future until the NRL season finishes.
Even Mannah — one of his closest friends — is in the dark over Hayne’s future.
“He’s a bit of an enigma. I’d love him to stay at the club,” Mannah told ABC Grandstand.
“Especially when he’s got a clear head and he’s playing the kind of footy he’s playing now, he’s one of the best in the comp.”
Hayne burns old flame
Jarryd Hayne put his former club Gold Coast to the sword with another impressive performance at ANZ Stadium on Saturday.
The dynamic centre scored a crucial try in the first half, and barely a minute later he skipped across the field from left to right to set up teammate George Jennings on the other side.
His own try was strong, but his assist was remarkable and a reminder of what the cross-code star is capable of.
He could yet help the Eels avoid a wooden spoon.

I hope one or two years the most but if it was up to me I give him 1 year at a time
A bi monthly contract for mine.
You don’t perform for a month Jarryd, bye.
Half our team should be on that contract.
Timmy couldn't even remember that the reason why we were suddenly forced to defend our own try line was because we just gave away a penalty down the other end & though it would be ok to lay on the tackled player for 2 hours.
I agree Grunta. I'd like all our top 30 players to be on similar contracts. And, if you don't perform, then you won't get your full pay. But we both know that won't happen. I'd even have them fined for giving away stupid penalties too. We've lost 8 or 9 games this year on the back of dumb penalties after scoring equal tries as our opponents plus a bunch more losses by 1 or 2 tries which were scored on the back of our dumb penalties. Introduce fines for giving away avoidable penalties next year and watch us become one of the more disciplined teams.
Yeah good points there, but unfortunately the refs would decide how much the players are penalised financially.
The refs can now so easily decide a game. Too many 50/50 calls.
That's why we scored the lest amount of tries in the nrl
