I noticed this article about Nathan Hindmarsh rejecting the South Sydney idea of having multiple skippers.

As I said in another thread, I actually like the multiple skipper guy especially given I don't see one bloke with all of the quality I'd want in a skipper. Some of the guys who you would consider on seniority like Smith and Keating aren't even walk up starters.
I like the idea of Hayne having to take more responsibility but don't know if he's ready for that kind of leadership role. Timmy needs more mongrel and is off the park for a long time, and Maitua has even admitted he is not fully comfortable as a leader.
As such, I think having multiple skipper where by you can spread the responsibilities and break them down into smaller leadership roles would work particularly well with this group.
On a related WTF? moment, Matt Keating when asked if he would like to be skipper.
"It’s up to the board and (coach) to decide that."
The board deciding the captain? He's kidding right?

I actually asked Nathan Cayless about this. He said that the 2 guys he'd be considering would be Ben Smith and Tim Mannah. He said either 1 of those guys would do an admirable job of leading the team. Personally I'd prefer Tim. According to Cayless he said Tim was being groomed for the role by SK. Obviously SK is gone but Cayless went on to say a certain coaching option was interested in Tim being a captain due to his attitude in Origin.
PS: I said coaching option because this was before our coach was announced. Because Cayless was involved in the club he couldn't say who the coach was before the announcement.
Can't say i agree, one captain is all you need.
It all depends on your roster and who fits the mould?
I think Hayne would make an excellent captain. You need a captain who can direct the troops, talk all game, pick players up when they are down, tell them when they are not putting in, back slap or get the playing group to encourage any good play and most of all lead by example. Hayne shows so much passion on the field and if his attitude is curbed to suit a captinacy role he would be most ideal IMO.
Sorry, I don't like the idea of multiple skippers at all.
If you start spreading responsibilities around I think it would hinder any chance of developing a cohesive playing unit. Do you really want to add a visible middle-management to the team structure? It could even start factions within the team. How would you decide which player gets what role? Why break a structure that has worked in the game for eons when it is not broken?
The reality is you don't have to over think it and label the way things already are. The captain does the talking to the ref. VC does it if the big C is off the field. Playmakers call the shots. The more senior players lead by example. The fullback rallies the defence. The team talks. Don't mess with it!!
We had the C and VC with Hindy and Cayless. When Cayless went off, Hindy took over. I'm not sure but I think Burt takes over when Hindy goes off, although I did see Ben Smith talking to the refs when Hindy went off.
13 captains and 4 vice-captains, I say!
And the captain, passes to the captain on his right, cut out pass to the captain, the captain draws the defence and flick passes to the captain and TRY!!! The captin scores a try and the Captain conververison is successfull.
LOL
media wouldnt know what hit them in the post match interviews, they wouldn;t know who to speak to..hahaha
The 17 captain strategy creates some fabulous images in my mind, so I'm all for it.
The tunnel would have to be made 13 times wider so that the starting 13 captains can all lead at the start of the match. The cheer-chicks would get pummelled by the wave of captains.
Questioning refereeing decisions, and deciding on penalty plays would be hilarious, as would the post-match press conferences.
It would be interesting to get a point of view from Phil and Crow as you both have been MK advocates this year. I like what MK has done in a struggling team but to ignore the value that Smith and Kelly could provide if Hayne was to transition to 6 would be crazy by Stuart?
Exactly. That is all you need
