My Struggle to be Part of a Softball Team

My passion for softball started when I was a bit young teaming up with other girls to play in the local field. The amount of training, enthusiasm, and hard work during training was an indication that we were destined for some great teams in the region. I kept the dreaming that one day I wouldn't need to find research papers for sale to get the sport scholarship in college. However, the dream was only mine alone as the others were contented with playing in the current team that we had. Every time I stepped on the green grass; I could have a vision and imagine myself playing for a bigger team. Advertisements of softball teams across the city made me feel jealous. Surely, I had to do something to become better and appear on adverts as well. When I attended some of the competitions, the sound of the players’ names being called made me feel proud of them as crowds cheered them to the field. I surely wanted to be a part of a bigger team. This got me to a dilemma of whether to continue with the team I was playing for or to choose a different team that was more competitive. After deliberation, I decided to quit my previous team and look for a different one where I could play in competitive games. This was the hardest decision I had to make back then as the team had become a part of me since I was young. Consequently, most of my friends played for the team.

However, on attempting to apply for different teams and even attending their trial periods, I was unable to get to any of the teams I wanted. This failure made me frustrated with the whole situation. I remember one of the coaches calling me to inform me that they did not have a place for me at the time. It left me heartbroken as I could not imagine staying at home and I had already called it quits with my first team. I was devastated by the news that it was impossible for different teams to acquire my services. The feeling of not being good enough settled inside of me. I could keep asking myself if I am good enough to be part of any competitive team in the region. My confidence always told me that I was equal to the task and could be part of any team if I was given a chance. All was not lost as one day as I was going through Facebook I saw a team that wanted to acquire the services of a pitcher and a first baseman. I applied, and when I was invited for a trial, I felt ready to do the trials. The fact that the two positions were my primary ones gave me confidence that I would make it in that trial. I woke up determined to sharpen my skills, and the sight of a green field full of people gave me the desire to train hard. When the day came, I was nervous, although I was confident that I could make it. The pitch was new, and the technical team was there as well. It made me feel a bit nervous. The sight of an image of one of the best pitchers that the team has had in the past made some chills run down my spine. The question I had was what did these players had that I did not possess. After a series of mistakes, my nerves calmed down, and I was able to finish the trial successfully. In the end, the coach came to me and said the magic words, “Violet, you made it to the team, and we look forward to working with you.” It became clear that failing in acquiring spots in the previous teams only prepared me to become a better player for a better team.
