Is BA Impacting Team Performance?

Don't get me wrong, this is not a BA bashing article. I've yet to say BA must go, not yet anyway. Like many here I've almost reached wrist slitting time but will hold off to see how they perform this Saturday. Another insipid performance dished up by the team like that over the past two weeks and I might finally look towards the knife drawer.

BA has many qualities and also has his glaring faults. One is picking and sticking with the same players irrespective of their performance. Yet again he has done that with a copy and paste of the same team and only changed the players where injuries have impacted his selections. So my questions are these.

Where is the accountability/consequences for that performance? Apparently none.

Why then would they try any harder this Saturday? Apparently none are under any pressure to perform.

What hope does he give the younger players coming thru if they continually don't get selected after such an abysmal performance? Apparently none.

Why have we almost exhausted the cap when our team is full of average players? If you cast your eyes over the team there are only a few you'd call representative level players. My only suggestion is many are paid much more than they're worth.

BA has now been in charge of the team long enough to assemble the team he wants. In that time we've only made the finals once. Our forwards generally are bog average and so far have performed to that level. That is on BA's head and if we fail this year questions must be raised over his strategy.

  • BA did a great job to get us where we are but i dont think hes the guy to get us to the next level
  • Some fair points Glenn, theres not a lot of accountability of the team and the best of the wenty players know they will very rarely get a chance in favour of old plodding has beens in our 30, it creates a poor environment.

I still think we will make the 8 but weve got some glaring faults and Brad got a lot to learn.

His inability to develop or identify leaders is factual and his inability to be expedient and cut throat will most likely cost him his career here

I'll feel sorry for him when its all over because hes obviously a top shelf human being but i fear Brads digging a hole for the future here.

I so badly want to see him succeed, but i have grave fears for his coaching future, i think he needs some help from a mentor type person, hes got too many nuffies around him and thats his fault.

  • Unless you are part of the teams inner sanctum, your assessment of the consequences being "apparently none" are purely a guess.  I don't know but I'd like to think that BA and his staff have been working overtime to address that last 130 minutes of on-field performance.  Again, I don't know but I'd be almost certain if performances don't change for the better, the consequences will become more apparent to everybody.

    • Well I have that a mate of mine was cleared to play last year semi but dickhead ba said no so to let u know he has lost the dressing room simple as that if u don’t suck ba knob he treats u like shit

  • I don't get it. We were top 4 last year and we've had a bad start to the year. How many rounds to go? I didn't think the season ended in March.

    • Its not the losses but the manner of the losses. As soon as the blow torch applied we crumbled. Where is our pride, our fight and our application from last year? We were 24-0 after 24 mins on Sunday, we couldn't even tackle for 24 mins. Every team, irrespective of their physical condition, should be able to tackle to start the match, but we didn't! Something is seriously wrong!

  • Just one thing to remember, is wenty got demolished just as bad as we did. I didnt see that game but cant imagine any of those boys really stuck their hands up demanding selection. Its all good to drop a player as punishment for bad performance but you need to be able to replace him with someone who is going to offer an improvement.

    • Fair points Pops.

I have not really seen Mahoney, although I think he played in the trial at Maitland, and went to Dummy half, he did ok in the time he was there, and certainly is a future prospect.  Stone, I believe need perhaps a few extra Kilo's on his frame to be ready for the NRL.  If he was to come up, I would suggest to play at lock, allowing Brown to second row or a prop in attack, he pretty well is playing that way now.

I think Stone is close to being ready if his form of last year that I witnessed has not dropped off.  Greg, I would like to see more of him at Wenty, which should lift his status.  I am also of the opinion that Marata needs to be given a go perhaps off the bench.

Again I come back to the players off contract end of this year, and how many will be extended.  Its very likely that some that are not going to get an extension may finish the year at Wenty, with some of the younger brigade given a shot at the top.

      But I am probably wrong.

    • Pops your reply was too long winded but finally you reached the salient point. EFFORT.

Where is the effort when pressure applied by the opposition? So far there has been none!

  • Oh of course, you are right. We only played the u10s last year. The sky has fallen this year and it's all BA's fault. I imagine the props that everyone is calling for are to hold the sky up? Maybe we shouldn't bother watching, as clearly we have finished last already. I imagine there will be a lot of membership passes being sold cheaply or given away on ebay then.
