Braith Anasta said on NRL360 that Zac Lomax may have played his last game for Parramatta,  and is very close to signing a deal with R360 worth around $3m a season to jump ship.

Braith said he heard a rumour from someone close to R360 and it's serious.

Peter Vlandys also advised on the same show that anyone who has an NRL contract and signs with R360 will suffer consequences.

  • Ryles to Matto "so Matto i hear there os a R360 comp comin, u would be great at union, make triple the money, im happy to let u go join"

    • It would be pretty hard to say no to that.

  • Sit back and think why the superstars such as Coates Warbrick Burton aren't being poached? Under the table payments? This will blow the salary cap open.

    • They could nit pick all the stars from the NRL; Cleary / Hughes / Walsh etc. lets see what happens here. Look I would be disappointed if Lomax goes but the NRL need to make a stand if guys leave during their contract. We will see.

NRL already has young guys being paid too much for me and it will only get worse with PNG and Perth coming in. This Union comp will also drain some...interesting times.

  • If you take into account the current geopolitical issues around the world with the threat of world war three.

The promise of another Pandemic in the near future by our unelected leaders at global forums and the continuing gain of function research  stands to reason a fledgling sporting competition trying to get traction spending loads of money is a dangerous option  for a player who currently lives on the other side of the world.

Imagine the carbon tax he'll have to pay.

Lomax at 26 might be of the belief if it doesn't workout after a couple of years he'll try his hand at boxing but he seems a little young to take the risk this early.
With a World Cup year in 27 ,major countries would be loathe to pick players from such a boutique sport in its  infancy to their national side making it even harder for the new comp to gain traction.

The threat to the NRL of this new competition is markedly less then it is for super rugby or European based competitions, they're likely to face the risk of a potential player drain the most.

Lomax is welcome to make whatever choice he likes for his future but the NRL needs to take a hardline stance against defectors to future protect its own product.

Best to make an example early on to sew the seeds of doubt in others.

    • Well Rugby Australia have already said they will not pick any players from R360 to play for Wallabies. That is legal as they can simply say they feel Player A from Waratahs is better than Player B from R360. It is all subjective.

Didn't V'Landys say he would bring in exemptions of getting Union players to NRL squads? Should very much consider that.

      • There saying the same in NZ but I don't know how either country can sanction those going because both a suffering from depth issues at the top level.

  • Just listening to triple m, Lomax agent has said he won't break a contract to go to R360. However if the eels see a benefit in moving him on to strengthen the team they might be open to it. Hard to say if it happens or not at this point

    • What a load of crap. He is playing the media there. He 100% wants to leave for more money the dog.
