Basically the NRL can pay any player they want outside the salary cap to compete with other codes (NFL), if they are a big name player who is invaluable to the game they could be paid directly by the NRL. The NRL said "giving the NRL CEO discretion to compete with other codes to recruit or retain players in exceptional circumstances". Hayne no doubt fits that criteria first NFL/ NRL player, even though he never made a huge impact in the NFL making a roster is achievement in itself. Hayne signed a lifetime contract with Eels so if his NFL career we have a chance of signing him.

  • It will benefit us if hayne choses to come back but its a rule thats a complete rort and creates an uneven playing field, i just cant see how letting a team be in reality over the cap with a big star just because the nrl gave it the green light is fair on the clubs not involved.

    • Snake your right about the field being uneven with that rule. But fuck it, the Roosters, Dogs and Storm seem to get all the advantage. We blooded him hes ours and if he comes back we should get him.
  • And IF this discretionary power is still available, it applies all clubs. The NRL may pay his base salary, but he'll still end up at the club that secures the most 3rd party money, which clearly won't be us.
    • If Hayne says he only wants to play for Parra are the NRL gonna force him elsewhere don't think so?

  • It isn't going to happen . . . . .

but if it did I could imagine the NRL making special dispensations to get  him back into our team. For example, they may let us shed numerous players currently under contract to fit him in, and not include said player's payouts in the salary cap.

Problem is, they may not necessarily favour Parramatta as such - this offer, or dispensation, could be made available to any club wanting to bid for his services.

On the other hand, if JH did decide to return he could say to he NRL "I will only return if I can play for Parramatta" and I have absolutely no doubt they would accommodate him. Surely they learnt something from the Izzy Falou debacle.

    It isn't going to happen anyway . . . . . . . .

  • Hayne is finished as an NFL player beyond 2015.

At least he made the sqaud

  • I agree.
  • Hayne said in his letter to Eels fans that he signed a life time contract with the Eels meaning if he were to return to the NRL, he will only play for the Eels. There is no doubt the NRL wants Hayne back in the NRL he is massive draw who will sell a ton of merchandise and memberships. His jersey was the highest selling in the USA over any NFL player at 1 time, it states exceptional circumstances and I believe Hayne fits that. They don't want what happens to Izzy Folau

  • Who?

  • More freeking stupidity about Hayne.

NRL cannot match HALF of what Hayne is getting now.

The ORF SEEZUN malady is particularly bad this year - Pandemic proportions.
