Parramatta have appointed former Wests Tigers player Mark O'Neill as general manager of football to help turn the club's fortunes around after a disastrous 2018 season.

Following an extensive review of the football department, the Eels found key areas were under-resourced and their junior pathways needed a more thorough approach.

O'Neill edged out over 80 applicants for one of the toughest jobs in rugby league, boasting 10 years of experience in sports administration with key roles at the NRL and Tigers.

The 221-game NRL great will be responsible for performance management, salary reviews and staff contracting, overseeing the club's recruitment strategies at both senior and junior level.

“It is essential that we have a strong and experienced leader who will be at the forefront of developing and driving our football strategy so that we can have a first class, high performance football department, with the goal of delivering sustainable success for our members and fans,” Parramatta chief executive Bernie Gurr said.

“Mark has over 20 years of elite NRL experience and, importantly, has worked at senior executive level in sports administration for over 10 years. Since his initial time with the NRL and West Tigers, Mark has been engaged by the Men of League Foundation to help on a range of strategic and operational objectives and the NRL to actively contribute towards achieving a best practice player safety policy related to potential head injuries during NRL matches. Additionally, he is near completion of his MBA studies which has been undertaken whilst fulfilling fulltime work commitments.

“These achievements demonstrate the respect Mark has within the sports industry, along with the range of experience and expertise that he can bring to our club and our football program.

  • Best thing Oneils ever done is stay down after Danny Williams dog shotted him in retaliation for a high tackle.

anyone can sell themselves as a talent on their resume , Poppa . Hell some of the worst employees I've witnessed absalouty nailed their interviews.  Why doesn't his fans page mention he was sacked for getting on the piss and flashing his junk at his last gig ?

    • Pop's is easily impressed Wiz , he doesn't sell used blenders in his twilight years for shits and giggles .

    • MON deserved every bit of that whack.  Glorious to watch .

I actually remember seeing it live and thinking it was fucking horrific at the time. Obviously he could've fucking killed him, but now knowing he didn't I take great enjoyment watching this on loop.

      • That's a disgusting comment & view, mate. A human being cowardly king hit is not glorious & enjoyable, despite what you think of them as a professional. It's not a case of over sensitivity or 'wokeness' or being 'far left', it's a gutless act that should never be praised at any time anywhere in society.

        • Yeah you'll be right. Take. A deep breath and read it again. As someone who lost a good mate to a king hit , I think you'll find the second paragraph of interest. .

          Cool outrage though....

watch that in full speed , Williams just squared up.

  • Wonder how Oneils reprimanding of DyLBro went after the shitters incident ? Considering O'Neil got punted for performing an unwanted wrist watch and helicopter trick with his cock.

  • He's the reason we don't resign players quickly and quietly instead letting it go to the media and offers pumping up their price.
He's the reason Bennett wouldn't touch the club, and probably why we will end up with TH, because MON can control them. (Bennett wouldn't want to be managed behind the scenes by MON)
He's the reason our junior recruitment and retention is so poor

    • Could you imagine Wayne answering to MON.  Wonder what Danny Williams is doing these days ? Wonder if we could entice him to run at our next elections.  Hiw we ended up with a deviant Tigers reject I'll never know , and then we let him hire his Neville Nobody mate Rogers as our head of recruitments.  The fact that everyone thinks of that terrible player from Newcastle first when they hear the blokes name , and then are disapointed  that our blokes not even as reputable as a fringe bum journeyman of a player speaks for itself.

To this day Mark Oneill probably iant even aware that the Rogers he hired isn't even the bloke that played footy.
