Parramatta’s brand new Western Sydney Stadium will host the very first World Cup 9’s tournament next October.
Twelve countries will compete in the men’s competition while four will be entered in the women’s.
The entire tournament will be presented on Fox League.
“We think there will be a lot of NRL players wanting to play for their country,” NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said at the announcement on Friday.
“It is something to add to the international schedule at the end of seasons so more and more people can play for their nations.”
The Eels and Wests Tigers will christen the stadium in April of the 2019 season.

The surface will be the finest in Australian sports, with its own automated draining systems.
I'm buying my tickets as soon as they're available. I went to the Rugby Sevens last year and that was fantastic. Now I have something closer to home in a better stadium.
This is also a huge step forward for international rugby league. This is how you grow the game. This makes the game accessible to families and new fans. I can see, in the next decade, a specialised Nines world format like the Sevens. The Nines will be at the next Commonwealth Games and rugby league will continue to grow internationally. This is an opportune time to fill the void being created by the ARU.
I’m expecting a massive name to sponsor the stadium. MASSIVE!!!
