Warriors players vote to head home after Round 2

It's been reported that the Warriors players have held a vote and have decided they'll head back to NZ after this weekends games.

How do you think the NRL should handle this, considering the fact that it's only a matter of time before a player gets it and the comp is suspended?..

Should they:

1. Suspend the competition after Round 2

2. Suspend the competition only after a player gets infected. Give the Warriors 1 point every week until then.

3. Suspend the competition only after a player gets infected. Give the Warriors no points every week until then.

4. Introduce a new team in Aus (Bears? Redcliffe? Newtown?) for this season to replace them until the comp is suspended.

  • You can't go punishing a team for trying to protect the health of its players. You suspend the comp.

    • You could potentially suspend for a month an then extend into November, but who's to say this will be all over by then? The NRL are in a no win situation here. If the season gets cancelled the game will be very different next year, if indeed it does come back. I doubt anyone will be pouring money into a debt riddled game.

  • The only real option available is quarantine all 16 clubs up north and play for TV revenue.
Sounds like the govt won't prioritise a bail out for the NRL nor should it. Without the tv revenue the game will be bankrupt, probably at least half the club's aswell.
That decision needs to be made before a player tests positive.

    • I like the idea of this option the most.
Keep the game going with some form of quarantine and safety up north in the tropical conditions where the virus cannot survive, and make sure the game continues with the TV Revenue.

      • The NRL's survival is the primary objective in this situation. Players and clubs can be replaced.
      • We may lose a club or two like the Warriors and Manly (fine by me!), but at least the NRL doesn't go bankrupt and the strongest clubs survive to continue the code
      • We may lose a few players, but they are in peak physical condition therefore at a reduced risk. Club depth will be tested and will add another level of the season. The premiership may come down to a survival of the fittest.
      • It might be worth one of the most lucrative TV rights in the world if we're the only sport to continue (think of the global exposure we'll receive as well).
      • It's the NRL's chance to stand up and prove it's the strongest code in the country.

That's how I would approach the situation right now anyway. This season may well be a write-off, but making sure the game can continue in the future should be the basis of every decision from the NRL executives.

      • Exactly, this call needs to be made today, arrangements for chartered flights to get all teams there before the weekend.

        • Hate to tell you this you dipsticks but PEOPLE ARE DYING FROM CORONA VIRUS IN QUEENSLAND!

          • There's more dying in NSW Queensland is less populated to start with and apparently the climate up there hinders the spread.

            • Lower that curve baby!

          • From what I've heard, the virus has trouble surviving in tropical conditions such as Townsville? Hence moving to that location...
