Volkman shopped to Super Leage clubs

https://www.loverugbyleague.com/post/parramatta-eels-halfback-offered-to-super-league-clubs

Ronald Volkman is the latest NRL player to be offered up to Super League clubs heading into 2027.

The halfback is currently out of contract at Parramatta Eels come the end of the season and clubs in the Northern Hemisphere have been alerted to his availability as his representatives look to secure his future.

Aged just 23, Volkman has only made 12 NRL appearances during his career, though five of those have been this year. However, he would be eligible for a Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) which would allow him to make the move to Super League as a result of his appearances in the New South Wales Cup. He played 22 times for the Eels’ reserve grade side last season, scoring eight tries.

It isn’t the first time Volkman has been made available to Super League clubs, having explored the opportunity earlier in his career. However, he eventually joined St George Illawarra Dragons in a botched move after they cancelled his contract as a result of a serious shoulder injury.

He restarted his career with the Eels and has worked his way into the first-team contention. Parramatta have won two of the five games he has played so far this season, scoring three tries.

  • looks like we aren't offering the Volk a contract

We shouldn't be relying on just Lorenzo next year, he's not guaranteed to be a first grader. Volkman was the perfect back up choice

    • I mean who knows maybe we do go for Burton. Let's be fair, we all know Burton will be available. Metcalf link made that obvious.

  • I suppose his manager thinks he can get a better deal over there.

We can't be that stupid to go into next year with Moses and Talatiaba and that's it!

    • Then again, shows too that his market is less than NRL. If another NRL club looked at him all hell would break loose here.

We do have Joash as the 6 or back-up 6. Though we do need a back-up 7. Not a lot out there. That reason alone should be why we extend Volkman.

But this does seem like a manager doing their job.

  • He'll probably get ignored by Eels recruitment then get offered a good contract overseas or some other NRL club and come 2027 the Eels recruitment will be annoyed ( more likely the Eels supporters) that he wasn't offered a contract in 2026 and the Eels will head into 2027 with Moses ( if he stays) and Papali / Lorenzo as Eels number 6 . Really don't understand why he's not offered a contract

    • Depends on what he wants. He might be asking for too money and 3-4 years. Using SL as a pawn is to up his value, hoping it would make us desperate. You cannot be reactionary off 5 games. He is doing well right now, let's see how he goes for say another 3-4 weeks.

  • TBH I would be happy for the guy if received a 2-3 yr deal; he has been good for us and had some times to get through. I would imagine it is a manager thing looking out for his client and also $$$

  • Im shocked that Mal wouldn't buy him as a back up.

Feel for him he is trying his heart out in tough times and he hasn't gone bad.

reckon seems a bit early to pull the pin and go to super league

Hope Lorenzo cuts it in the big league for us but as yet we don't know

    • Time to find out

If Mark isn't hitting kpi's , its up to Sarantinos to deal with Mark
