Volkman shopped to Super Leage clubs

Ronald Volkman is the latest NRL player to be offered up to Super League clubs heading into 2027.

The halfback is currently out of contract at Parramatta Eels come the end of the season and clubs in the Northern Hemisphere have been alerted to his availability as his representatives look to secure his future.

Aged just 23, Volkman has only made 12 NRL appearances during his career, though five of those have been this year. However, he would be eligible for a Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) which would allow him to make the move to Super League as a result of his appearances in the New South Wales Cup. He played 22 times for the Eels’ reserve grade side last season, scoring eight tries.

It isn’t the first time Volkman has been made available to Super League clubs, having explored the opportunity earlier in his career. However, he eventually joined St George Illawarra Dragons in a botched move after they cancelled his contract as a result of a serious shoulder injury.

He restarted his career with the Eels and has worked his way into the first-team contention. Parramatta have won two of the five games he has played so far this season, scoring three tries.

  • lets be real, he is a turnstyle in defence...watch the cowboys game again...

    • Someone sees it for what it is. Good call Fiddy.

Just wearing a blue and gold jersey should not mean they get to be resigned. Look at what the Dragons are doing right now. Drinkwater, Kolomatangi, Metcalf. Who is in charge of contract negotiations over there.

  • Panthers off contract in 2027 Nathan ClearyIsaah YeoLiam MartinBrian To'oMoses LeotaMitch KennyIsaiah Papali'iBlaize Talagi and Paul Alamoti in a perfect world we snag all of them get them lining up with Ado Carr , Moses , Williams & Iongi then maybe we will win the premership

    • We just need to annex Parramatta to Papa New Guinea, and offer tax free contracts. Jobs done.

    • To'o Martin and Alamoti please.

  • I'm leaning towards keeping him, but I can see us signing a back up half whether Volk stays or goes. I think the club would go into next year with Moses, Talataina, +1, +1. I think with the 6 man bench Papalii might be kept as 18th man or cup fullback or 6, rotating between all those.

If Fletcher comes back and dominates Jersey Flegg he will start next year as the CUp 7 and means we need one less half, in which case if we resign Volk then we don't need anyone new.

  • Yes, although some called me out in my blog about our next 6 last week, I said Volkman was not the long term answer.

Id like to see Lorenzo now given time in the 6 jumper.  Surely if there's a couple more losses Lorenzo comes in.

It really looks like Lorenzo is the man now, i wasn't too sure because of his age and stature, but I've heard he's the real deal from a few ex Parramatta players

  • Volkman just doesn't have the speed that's required to become a class 6 in the nrl. He's shown over 15 m he has agility,  but I saw him trying to chase a player last weekend,  and he was treading water.

"The cream usually rises to the top Eli. Diligent recruitment, player development,  coaching and strength and fitness are big factors.  Id give luck less than 10% of most teams success in any season.  I do believe the club is on a winner with Ryles. …"

Just looking at the ladder and recent results, bulldogs raiders both had strong seasons last year and now look horrible and languishing at the bottom of the table. Yes recruitment and coaching is imporant but you also need a hell of a lot of luck…
