Well Matto and Hands going frees up maybe a player to buy. What they don't want to do is sign a player then Matto and Hands stays and means we have no money to re-sign a player we want to keep. Better safe than sorry.
Plus I reckon the club do not want to show their hand that they are heavily in the market.
Simmonson might free up a spot.
Yep makes zero sense re the money. I get the top 30 spots, the money just isn't adding up.
It seems weird ...the money part would be due to clubs mandated to spend 95% of the cap each year. So, even though all those high paid players left. We have only saved max. 5% this year.
Upgrades, forward loading and paying overs to new recruits make up most I am guessing.
We only saved parts of those who left or loaned out mid season as well.
I have no idea if Ryles will succeed in terms of winning us a GF , but he gives me confidence that Parramatta has the right coach .
It brings the decision into hindsight that out of those available we may have got the best option. Doesn't mean he will win comps but out of all the coaches we were looking at or were linked to:
Wayne Bennett
Josh Hannay
Dean Young
Michael Maguire
Michael Cheika
To name a few, Ryles seems to be the better option out of all of them.
Another way of looking at it is that Ryles has exceeded our expectations and hindsight tells me he is proving to be much better than any of those choices, including Bennett.
I would love Michael Cheika as Head of Football, notwithstanding!

Cheika is Adam Douei's uncle or some kind of prick relation , Maybe being related to him qualifies him as a Rugby League expert ?
That's what's always worried me about this club it's never been the coaches because for the most part they are appointed from those running the asylum.I'll always beat the drum that the winning takes place off the field before it takes place on it.The decisions set the table for success or failure.
I don't know if we have it off the park to match the best in the comp but I guess in a year or 2 time will tell.
I'd still take Bennett every day of the week , even with his current predicament. The issue at Souths isn't a Wayne Bennett issue. The issue at Souths is the lunitics running the asylum , that place is more focused on ensuring they're the blackest team and not the best team. Needs a broom through the roster that even old Wanyeo wouldn't be allowed to push due to the uproar that'd come from the Prime Minister down.
In saying that , Ryles is looking better than everyone else on the list which was a low bar , but he's exceeded my expectations all the same, which was also a very low bar.
