Triple M - eels not fazed if Lomax leaves.

Listening to Journos pod, apparently Lomax is still mulling over whether to stay or leave for R 360. Eels apparently are not fazed if he decides to leave as it opens up cap space for other signings. Have to wait and see what happens

    • If we are not phased we must have options, but those options are not clear. Unless Ryles sees more importance using the money for depth and forwards instead of a Winger?

I would rather just keep him as he makes the team better.

      • Back 5s are so important in the modern game I see more value in paying Lomax 650 than Kolomatangi wanting 950 if I'm honest and the impact Lomax will have.If I'm talking overall impact on a game back 5 wise Lomax is in that top percentile of those in his position.

As for not seeing it there is no replacement and I think the fact there resigned to not being able to compete with R360 money is what I'm getting out of the not fazed comment.I mean why worry when you can't match what's being offered it's out of Parra's control.

      • Who is not phased? nobody who has an understanding of what he offers, which means it is not the coaches.

Eli republishing this shit is what we have talked about before!

    • Definitely prefered that lomax stays. Just have to wait and see what his move is

    • Bailey will do us just fine, as long as he stops whining, the guy works his ass off every game, he deserves a spot!!!!!!

    • Losing Lomax would be a body blow. He's our Payne Haas-Xavier Coates hybrid. Our yardage tank. Lion hearted with a killer offload and giant mitts. I wouldn't like to lose him.

Ryles is mountain-first, badge-first, but he wouldn't want to lose Lomax. Who would? Perhaps a reason he may  "seem unfazed" losing players who want or need to go for dosh is because it's out of his hands and he wants players who want to be here for the right reasons. Sensible really. What are his choices?

The uncertainty of R360 might be enough to sway Lomax to stay. Or maybe not, if they throw enough guaranteed dosh at him.

I just think R360 — especially IF it happens, which is more likely than not — is a real bad influence on the game.

Not just due to unsustainable, inflationary issues but its predatory nature: taking from the game to make their shop-front ambitions, but giving nothing back. Things like the IPL are sanctioned and give back something. R360 is going to have plenty of players' heads secretly fantasizing green-grass and castles in the clouds.

If R360 is anything like LIV Golf — its predatory-disruptor cousin that is also unsanctioned and Saudi-backed with similar ideas and people involved (e g. Loffhagen who has his finger in IPL/LIV/R360) — plenty of good NRL players will go. Initial tough-talking PGA bans, tougher than the NRL's, didn't stop some of the world's best golfers leaving nor did the bans last long after costly litigation wars that could've lasted years if the PGA didn't come to the party. It's the best precedent we have for what we might expect to see.

We'll find out over the next few weeks to months how the mop flops on all this. Once or IF R360 confirm a few big NRL names, more dominoes will fall. LIV 2.0. Their comp starts next year, and they will need to start publicly releasing things. They can't stay hidden in the shadows and fog forever. The money is ready to go. Interesting times as the Chinese say.

When comparing players, ability is only half the comparison. The other important part is the amount the players are being paid. When comparing the loss of a higher paid player with his replacement on less money, you must include the money saved and where it is invested. For example, if losing Lomax frees up just enough money to get NAS across the line,  your comparison must be, is Lomax and Simonsson better than Simonsson and NAS?

  • Don't get me wrong I want Lomax to stay, but if he wants out "there's the door". Same goes for anyone that doesn't want to be here or can get a better deal elsewhere.

    • Beautiful rhetoric Adam...../you miss the point about him being irreplaceable.

  • Does anyone give any credibility to reports the Eels would "not be fazed" if Lomax left? Lomax made SOO and the Kangaroos (before withdrawing), is in the Top 20 metres per game and runs per game, is a first or second choice goal kicker, can play wing or centre, is a constant aerial target and good one-on-one defender.

I don't know why fans eat up click bait from the media. Last we actually heard directly from Lomax, which was  afew weeks back at the Dally M awards, he explicitrly said he is commotted to seeing out his contract (runs until end of 2028) and said there is no truth to the rumours. Then his manager said he would not shop his players to R360.

Defections and blindsides are possible. See Dylbag$. But that's alot of "nothing to see here" from the Lomax camp.
