Crazy that he was allowed to step onto the field after the shot he took in warmups. He was basically knocked out for a second. Storm might be able to seek legal compensation from Tonga for it ? Im not even sure if he'll play footy next year or ever again?

Imagine two semi-trailers, with a tougher padded-exterior & bull bars, colliding at 150kmh head on. What happens to the people inside not wearing seatbelts?
The brain doesn't have great seatbelts.
But CTE doesn't even need big collisions. Repetitive smaller ones can lead to it. In time. Bash something against something else for long enough and something gives or breaks...
That's why CTE is going to challenge the nature of collision sports like NRL, NFL, even soccer to an extent, eventually. Way more than concussions. When the tech to test, widespread in real-time in the living, is available.
It's the asteroid we're not seeing coming, while we're talking about concussions and more obvious incidents.
I agree hoe. I think eventually ai robots will be playing gladiatorial games like these. Even soccer is beginning to ban heading for the younger age.
Hahaha are rams frequently tested for CTE though?
Good point you make though Chief, weird creatures.
Horrific news about Katoa, forgetting football, let's hope he returns to full lucidity.
The issue with CTE is it will challenge the nature of our sport — repetitive collisions and tackles — not just head knocks, concussions, big hits. But for now as it can only be diagnosed post-mortem with permission, it's an asteroid we aren't seeing. Yet. But over 95% NFL / all NRL players tested had it.
Yes I did mention to hoe why those Rams never got concussions or cte, but I know that their brains are wired differently as they've adapted to those hits by creating seat belts if you will that doesn't allow fir their brains to slam against their sculls, a sort of suspension system creating over thousands of years of evolution.
I did delete it as I felt it was a little comical to this serious situation Eli is in atm.
Chief, you didn't come across as downplaying Eli's injury, sometimes finding some humour elsewhere helps - was a good one.
It is horrific for Eli.
Thx mate
What you'll see and has been in the nfl for years is reduction of the contact sessions in the pre season and in weekly training. No more 2 a days and also they've adapted the kick off rules also lessen the likelihood of collisions.
Basically they were also very late to the party but after paying a nie on billion dollar reparations bill to generations of players after trying to bury evidence ie the concussion movie starring Will Smith and alike the powers that be forced the nfls hands. The scarier thing is Goddell and co could have easily afforded to pay these reparations and wrote the cheque on the spot.
If the nrl or someone similar got fined like that it would probably end the game as we no it.
Well, Boxing and Ufc still aren't going anywhere so just reclassify NRL as a Combat sport.
Randy, When reclassifying RL as a "combat" sport like boxing or UFC, with waivers, should head shots be legal then?
Concussions are the tip of the iceberg. The problem for our game will be when mass CTE testing occurs. Most modern day elite NFL/RL athletes, in post-mortem exams, had different stages of CTE (Boston >95%).
Boxing and RL are apples and oranges. Elite boxers fight maybe twice a year. NRL players take hundreds of hits weekly and the forces keep getting larger over time, which means CTE will happen faster these days.
And it's insidious. Former players know all too well about it, and have lost plenty of mates to it.
