Thomas Jenkins

I have no inside intel or contacts within rugby league circles, but this is one rumour I keep seeing in different parts of the internet.  Social media, Penrith forums, other eels forums etc.

Milky Jenkins apparently is going to sign a 3 year deal with Parra. Again I don't know how true this is. He'd be a good addition.  Yes he plays on the end of a dominant team and yes he was average at Newcastle. But he was also a kid. He's matured and coming into the peak years of his career. Quick, great in the air and often makes 200m a game.  Something we are lacking. I'd love for this to be true.

  • I have said and still am wary of him outside of Penrith. But also an argument can be made on skill and form he is the best back on the market right now. So I do not blame Parra going for him. This is a high risk high reward signing. At least still young enough too.

One shining light is last time he left Penrith he had only 6 NRL games under his belt. So will be more confident as a player.

  • again  I must  say  , who ever  comes  to  parramatta  , I can only  hope  they  can improve and take  their  game  to another level  under  parra's  coaching staff. ....... if not  S.O.S  the  f#%k for  that HAYNE  guy. FFS  !!  surely  J.Ryles can benefit some sort of input 🤔..again  just saying.

  • Doesn't Jenkins play on the left? Fox is also a left sided player. I don't see it happening sorry. Happy to be proven wrong but sides matter and I don't think Fox can play on the right as effective

    • so Wingers only play one side and one side only? Sides matter but Penrith also train their backs to play both left and right. To'o can do so, Turuva the same.  Jenkins has played right for Penrith before and done fine.

Dont see it happening? So you are saying Jenkins turns down a good deal from Parra just cause he's not on the left? I also doubt JAC is one to move.

      • Edge players are either left or right side. Some can play both but don't play both we'll. Just because he can do a job on the right doesn't mean it's a good signing. You want your wingers to hold the ball away from the defender and plant the ball with their away hand not inside hand. If you can't do this you are at a disadvantage.

        • I agree most wingers have a preferred side and are usually better there. My point is that doesn't automatically mean Jenkins wouldn't sign. Penrith train their outside backs to play both sides and Jenkins has played right wing before. If Parra offered the best deal and a pay rise, I find it hard to believe he'd reject it solely because Addo-Carr plays left wing.

I think you're overstating the side issue. Jenkins has played right wing before and Penrith train their outside backs to play both sides. Just because his preferred side is left doesn't mean he's suddenly not a good fit or a bad signing.

          • Fully understand LB, what I am saying is by signing another preferred left sided player in my mind it doesn't make sense. It would make more sense to go for a right sided player and let JAC continue to perform at his ceiling rather than dropping. But I also get two higher averages are better than what we have anyways. We shall see if Parra actually position themselves to offer a lucrative deal which he will accept.

            • Yeah and Gucci your thought is not crazy. It's unfortunate that we are not in the position to get a star right sided Winger. However, most of the best Wingers in the comp are left sided. Not all but majority as teams favour the left in attack.

But I would rather have Jenkins and put him on the right as opposed to nothing either.

Only thing I've heard is $500k average for 3 years. Who knows Fox might retire or move on after 2027 and in 2028 Jenkins is back on the right.

              • Agreed, $500k for Jenkins is on the money in my opinion.

                • I think it is an overpay but not egregious by any means. I would say $50-100k over but i think it is reasonable too. Just to get players that are in form that is ok.

                  Penrith only offered reported $350k.
