THE VIDEO REFEREE

Hi,

Alot of people criticise the video refs, some even suggesting they should be removed altogether.

I reckon the video ref has been a huge success. We need to remember that the video referee were not brought in to make the refereeing perfect, but to prevent obviously bad calls from costing a team victory.

The situations they can adjudicate on were always going to be limited, and there were always going to still be cases where calls are not black or white. And, yes, some decisions are made that completely baffle the mind.  But when I compare today's game to the 80's, there were more obvious errors back then with regards to awarding tries than there is now.

Agree? Disagree? Couldn't give a stuff?

  • There is no excuse when the vid ref has multiple looks at an event on the footy field and still get it wrong. Before the video came in the refs had one look at normal speed and made a call. If they got it wrong then it's a human error and understandable. These days they get as many looks as they want from multiple angles and different speeds and still getting wrong. Sorry no excuse for that.
    • Yes, that sucks, and it happens in about 5-10% of referrals.

What about the rest of the time?

Case in point: Broncos v Titans tonight. Late in the game, Broncos winger went over for a try in the corner. Referee said he and touchies give it a try, but the replys clearly showed his foot on the sideline, so vid ref disallowed it.

  • I believe the referee should watch it on the screen or a tv (nfl like) and than he makes the decision therefor not involving another 2 referees 4 is already plenty surly they can make a decision
  • thought the Tigers scored a reasonable try last night through Farrah but it was disallowed. Seriously, the ball did touch the white line...Vid refs sucks big times!

  • I agree 100% but when the commentators, fans and everyone else can clearly see what happened on a call but they still get it wrong that's what angers me. It's like they r looking at a different replay to everyone else. They use excuses like they r looking at a poor monitor, what a load of crap. Unless the monitor they r looking at blurrs the images into each other then that's rubbish. I'm not calling for the vid replay to be abolished I'm saying the people making the call on the replays be abolished. Honestly u could randomly pick someone from the crowed to do the job and they will do it better than these so called experts.
    • If it was me, it would be a blue&gold try all the time.

      • I'd give u the job any day of the week.
  • 3rd option ...
