The Riff - Under the Radar!

Firstly, I'll take the win in what was a poor game to watch. Now to the Panthers. How badly are they going? Any team with the possession rate that they had should have been well in front. I'll praise our defence and resilience, but most teams with that much ball would normally crack the opposition. So why hasn't the Penrith season been under the microscope? Yes they've had some injuries, but no more than Parra. Yet the critics have made excuses for them and some still had them as finals smokies up to a couple of weeks ago.So, given that the Riff are now genuine chances of getting the spoon, will the spotlight now be shone on their efforts? Or will they continue to fly under the radar?

  • I said it in the cupboard. For all Sowards forced drop outs he was too scared to take on the line with Pauli on the field. Even though Pauli was playing on the opposite side. What a cat.

Gould will be defending them in the Herald tomorrow.

  • Phil Gould is doing wonders out there. Lol
  • "poor game" is way to much praise for that "thing" Sixties.

  • They will continue to fly under the radar. Gould will make sure of that.

Us on the other hand will be hung up and pumped if we loose poorly to the roosters.

Considering the season we have had with hayne leaving, salary cap/foran rubbish, sandow crap and the major injuries we have had. I think we have done alright. Yes I think we have played below par considering all those things but we are not in the world of hurt everyone thinks we are everytime we loose.

Remember when we used to get pumped by 50.
    • Good point. In the past, defending against that much possession, even against poor opposition, would have produced a hiding.
  • They get shielded from criticism because of Gus's influence in the media, much like problems at Manly are glossed over because of Bozo

Anyway , a win is what wa needed, although it was a poor spectacle, watched an U14 Div 1 game today, was actually more exciting and better quality

    • I called a win in Captain's blog this morning for the reason that I really don't rate their team. If you cut down the impact of Segayaro and Cartwright they rarely challenge the line. I'm guilty of previously ignoring them for the spoon. BTW, don't you just love the growl that they play over the PA at Penrith Park!
  • Penrith ought take the flight out of Darwin and onto to Bali for their end of season trip after that performance, they are almost there.

  • Your right Sixties. I can't believe that the so called experts have had the Panthers an outside chance for the Top 8. I had them finished when they lost Wallace. Having said that, they were more competitive last week against the Rabbitts, but that form hasn't stacked up given what the Eagles did to them on Friday night.

Tonight's win has saved us from the wooden spoon but that is basically our last winnable game for the year if we play at that standard. Kelly at No7 is like a handbrake on our attack and the silly mistakes from a lot of other players was not NRL standard.

Riff was obviously worse(even Greg Alexander was giving it to them)  but as has been raised before Parra is always over analysed compared to other teams and I don't see that changing any time soon.

  • Panthers have more injured players than us. When Peachy left the field, they had 12 NRL players unavailable. When Hopa left, we had 8 unavailable, 9 if you include Sandow's departure. But the bottom line is, the Panthers don't attract attention because their neighbours, the Eels, are a far bigger club in terms of profile. Given the choice, the media will always target the Eels, whether the stories are positive or negative. Phil Rothfield is one of the few who rips into the Panthers, but that's more due to his personal dislike of Phil Gould. If everything was even, the media would acknowledge that both teams are decimated by injuries and instead call upon the NRL to change their ridiculous rules involving the second-tier cap and the top 25.
