I reckon Sloan would be a good pick up to replace Lomax on the wing. What do you folks think? 🤔

Powerhouse newcomer Setu Tu is poised to push tryscoring ace Tyrell Sloan out of the Dragons' top side for the start of the new season.

Sloan scored 17 tries in 20 games last season - double the next best player in the Red V.

But the Dragons are attempting to offload the enigmatic winger, who is contracted for next season but whose defence has been questioned many times in recent seasons.

  • It feels like any name that's available fans think anyones a good replacement.

In saying this Sloan feels like a guy whose been looking for a new team for years. He has huge potential but of course it's inconsistent and unrealised. He'd give you more speed in your side but I'm not sure he's what we need coming out of yardage.Back 5 and yardage is a really big thing in the modern game and I see that as a huge hole now that Lomax has chosen his own path to walk.

Of course if we want to play touch footy bringing the ball out that's another thing but if I'm an opposing team that's where I'm targeting us burying us deep in corners and testing our yardage game and it puts a shitload more pressure on the Moses long kicking game.

    • Do you think under Ryles coaching Sloan could improve and be a worthwhile purchase or just stick with players coming through the ranks or keep looking for a better player. Not much around at the moment

      • I mean maybe. The only coaches he has had are Griffin and Flanagan. Would a nurturing coach be better for him?

  • Might be true with ryles links to saints. I still can't believe they didn't go after Averillo.  We need outside backs asap.

    • Us and 16 other clubs didn't seem to want him either. Go figure. Averillo is a decent player but a Winger? But i hear "Why didn't we go for Averillo" we obviously have seen something other clubs have as well.

  • I've always thought Sloan was a player of great untapped potential. However I'm not sure he fits into our side.

  • The big issue for Sloan is defence and impact to bend the line. Speed at times cannot be taught, he has god given speed. But we already have that type of Winger in JAC. We need a metre eater like To'o or Kiraz, a workhorse. Simonsson is the only one at the club at the moment that is close to being that workhorse back.

If we did sign him, i wouldn't hate it but i think we need better for our squad in terms of need. If we didn't have JAC then yeah i would be more open to Sloan.

    • His defense is definitely a concern, there have been times where he appeared scared to put his body in front of the ball runner.  The work Ryles would have to do with him in defence it would probably be better to identify a fast or big athletic winger.  I have heard we have some pretty quick players in lower grades so may as well work with them over getting Sloan who is older and less likely to adapt and improve at his age.

  • Defensive issues, but back ups are needed.
