The farce needs to end!

https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/inside-story-jason-ryles-explains-how-dylan-brown-became-parramattas-13m-odd-man-out/news-story/6e754d6de4346b2a862a9ea17aae282d

"So Ryles sat down with Brown and laid it out. You can go, but if you choose to stay I can’t guarantee you will play in the halves."

Summary:
The Eels began planning for the future, and Dylan Brown was no longer part of those long-term plans. Coach Jason Ryles had an open and honest discussion with Brown, similar to one he had with Clint Gutherson in the off-season. Gutherson chose to leave and joined St George Illawarra. In contrast, Brown accepted the decision, expressed willingness to play wherever needed, and preferred to finish the season with Parramatta before joining Newcastle.

Opinion:
What a mess!
The second Dylan signed elsewhere his season at the Eels was effectively over. Now it's been confirmed that it is truly over as far as his Coach is concerned. Yet he still takes up salary cap space and we still have the season to finish.
I concede that the offer he got from Newcastle was insane and he had no choice but to take it, however the situation highlights the farce that is the current player transfer market. Basically if you have a player sign elsewhere 12 months out then it's over there and then. All the talk at the time about him being committed to the season and an important piece of our plans was nonsense. We're a team running 15th and we're benching one of our Marquee players. It's irrelevant if that is the right thing to do, what it illustrates is the mess that our R&R is.
Apologies for the rant but I'm frustrated with the continual bumbling of our roster. This is our 3rd season straight without finals.

    • Finals I was thinking more like saving face and not winning the spoon.

You already know what your getting from Hawkins/Joash/Iongi/Smith.

      • But we don't what we're getting from Joash in the 6. And in all honesty, what's the difference between finishing 17th and 15th?

Just because one is called "THE SPOOOON" doesn't change much. 15th or 14th is still not a great season to put it mildly.

And that's assuming Joash takes us to the spoon. We don't know.

  • playing brown for most of the year was so he wouldn't throw a young guy into the Furness too early like tigers have been doing and burning them from a first grade carear before they even mature  .. he is about giving  players chances but if papali for instance had played earlier his confidence and ability to handle the role may have been worse and we could have burnt him . We saw with volkman he isn't up to it in firsts so there wasn't much choice but to play him

  • Hang on, I thought Brown was no good and fans can't wait to see the back of him? Now the club is at fault for stuffing the season because Brown doesn't care? If he is that bad, why is anyone upset or surprised he can't get the team to the finals?

The more likely scenario here is that fans jump on any chance to have a dig at the club.

  • Brown has plateaued.  Over 150 games and please advise me of at least 10% games played where he was the game changer. No scope for him to really be a $1m + player. In hindsight glad that he had options that he is going

At best $750k player. JR actions yesterday was the right way to go

  • It's just such an arse of a situation... yes, DB's contract is where this rot started and what ultimately caused much of the issue. That's MON... what's been the repercussion there? Bugger all. Well done Jim... tough stuff... true leader.

MON has botched many things... he needs to go. If Jim doesn't want to do that... he needs to go too. Then reset and sort R&R. That's our in house stuff.

There remains however the bigger problem which is the NRL... or National Retarded League. The administration under Abdo and V'Landys (I'm mega awesome... just ask me) is a disgrace. Focussed only on big picture, name in lights crap... while so many day to day and on field issues keep ruining the game and frustrating the hell out of fans. Ol' Pete doesn't care if the refs are shit and inconsistent each week, if the rules are grey and impossible to interpret, if the video refs and the MRC are completely inconsistent, if game results are determined by errors, if grass roots is developing, if the NRL is fighting off the AFL... none of it... Pete cares about doing a big Vegas deal so his name is up in lights. The bloke is an ego-maniacial tosser... always has been.

This crap with Dylan... and so many other players / contracts / situations just highlights that this collective of morons that runs this game needs to break free from their circle jerk of aren't we all awesome and actually do something.

End of season trades only, transfer window, end of season + maybe mid season trades, players either held to contracts... or contracts are recurring 12 month deals... sort the player agent issues... something has to give and any ounce of thought would be a step in the right direction from position stupid that the game exists in now. November 1 thing is just farked... oh, they have to wait until November... cool... then they can sign somewhere else for 2 seasons away so the current club gets to have a player who couldn't give a shit for 12 months! Great system! It's ok - they're really committed... uh ha... no, they're not. Then they can't be pissed off early subject to the new clubs cap position so the current club is stuck... do they drop them, bench them... like our DB situation... what then happens to our cap, nothing, deal with it. Thanks - cap tied up, money spent... but in effect we have no player for the spend. Again, great system.

The situation is just absolute balls. In so many aspects, this code is one of the worst administered on the planet... just absolute incompetence. On top of all this, add in Origin and how much it stuffs the comp, the unfair nature of byes, the very unfair nature of the draw, teams playing each other completely different counts... through all of this sheer incompetence is that fat toad and his greasy melon sitting there like the fuckin' Godfather thinking he's brilliant becuase he's Mr Horse and Mr Footy. He's just Mr Fucktard.

The most frustrating part is this shit is all so absolutely easy to fix... the trades / transfers, the draw, Origin, refs / rules... it's all simple to get right... the admin are just too busy pulling each other off while moaning how how awesome they all are to do anything about it.

Drinking and venting... I'm off for another beer. Bad day.

  • Huge expectations on DB for next year..I wonder what is going on in his head after circumstances of last week in particular..

" Winning" the spoon doesn't particularly worry me. It's all about how you win the spoon. If the attitude desire and what we have been learning every week is in the right trajectory it is a huge plus. Lots of good things have been happening. The loses can give some good insights on how to better address next year. I just hope things will become a lot clearer for our rookie coach to " see" what he needs to work on. Some coaches/teachers / mentors can be struck on repeating the same approach with the same results and be blind to rethinking their own approach . Good self awareness and critical thinking is contagious..

  • You love a rant and whinge dont you? Anyway, this blog smells like a stinking turd..
