The farce needs to end!

"So Ryles sat down with Brown and laid it out. You can go, but if you choose to stay I can’t guarantee you will play in the halves."

Summary:
The Eels began planning for the future, and Dylan Brown was no longer part of those long-term plans. Coach Jason Ryles had an open and honest discussion with Brown, similar to one he had with Clint Gutherson in the off-season. Gutherson chose to leave and joined St George Illawarra. In contrast, Brown accepted the decision, expressed willingness to play wherever needed, and preferred to finish the season with Parramatta before joining Newcastle.

Opinion:
What a mess!
The second Dylan signed elsewhere his season at the Eels was effectively over. Now it's been confirmed that it is truly over as far as his Coach is concerned. Yet he still takes up salary cap space and we still have the season to finish.
I concede that the offer he got from Newcastle was insane and he had no choice but to take it, however the situation highlights the farce that is the current player transfer market. Basically if you have a player sign elsewhere 12 months out then it's over there and then. All the talk at the time about him being committed to the season and an important piece of our plans was nonsense. We're a team running 15th and we're benching one of our Marquee players. It's irrelevant if that is the right thing to do, what it illustrates is the mess that our R&R is.
Apologies for the rant but I'm frustrated with the continual bumbling of our roster. This is our 3rd season straight without finals.

    • Fair chance.

      • To be fair i do not have an issue with. Earlier in the year i was down the path that Brown was our best option, particularly with Moses out. But with one game til Moses is back and pretty much a 1% chance of beating Canberra in Canberra don't care about a Hawkins/Papali'i pairing.

I just feel Brown wont even play Cup, could be a simple case he is taking time away from game or some shit like that. Or he could play Cup who knows.

      • I ask the question if this is the case has JR put the cue in the rack for the year.

If he's leaving DB out which ok obviously will have been discussed are we committed to winning this week. That literally leaves 2 plus mill of salary cap on the sidelines.

  • You would have to be worried as a Knights supporter....two of the highest paid players in one team.  Their cap is way outta shape.Brown is not going to carry a team and win you a comp like Lockyer or Thurston ....and Pongia only plays well during origin and is injury prone now...2.8 M in two players who are not proven match winners and have never been in premiership winning teams.....is crazy...then again we have enough of our own problems who cares  hahaha

    • They need middles but do not have the money to offer. So instead offered $1.4mil to a 5/8 and still need a Halfback.

    • By the sounds of things Ponga's had enough of Newcastle so he'll be on his bike ASAP.Then basically the pressures off.

  • Dont think many other clubs would have persisted with Brown st 5-8 this long, sure would be a lock or center

  • Completely fair. We have little chance of finals, so why botther playing the best possible side? let's give Joash a go and see if he can improve and hack it.

I was completely behind what Ryles was doing yesterday. It's not like Dylan is some organiser in the halves, he's all running and defence, so it's all OK if he plays at 9, 13 or the centres for us for the next few weeks.

    • Finals I was thinking more like saving face and not winning the spoon.

You already know what your getting from Hawkins/Joash/Iongi/Smith.

      • But we don't what we're getting from Joash in the 6. And in all honesty, what's the difference between finishing 17th and 15th?

Just because one is called "THE SPOOOON" doesn't change much. 15th or 14th is still not a great season to put it mildly.

And that's assuming Joash takes us to the spoon. We don't know.
